Looking around at laptop drives, whats the best at the mo.
Always been a Seagate follower - had the least hassle with them
But recently purchased a couple of the 1tb Samsung F3's and they are very good so opened my eye up a bit to their products.

Anyway been looking at the ST9500420AS

Ideally around the 500gb mark, or whatever is the sweet spot £ per gb

Any info is great.

While I always get samsung 3.5's any 2.5 ive bought that isnt an SSD tends to be a WD scorpio blue/black depending on if i need the speed of the black or not.
For example:In a portable USB 2.0 drive you dont need the extra speed as it cant transfer that quickly anyway, but in a laptop you would want a 7200 drive if you can.

thanks for the replies chaps..

it probably will go in a 2.5" enclosure but the difference between the 5400rpm and 7200rpm is peanuts so was leaning towards the faster drive incase I decide to pop it in a laptop later on..
should have mentioned that I guess.

My father and I have always had bad experiences with WD, although a long time ago so may be a lot better now..

Ive bought both the Momentus 7200.4 and the scorpio black,i sent the Momentus 7200.4 back as its very very noisy compared to the black.

The black is slightly faster i believe

Dan, I used to outright refuse to buy WD after how many of them would break in machines at a net cafe I helped out at, hence why I buy samsung on 3.5" drives, but for 2.5 there was nothing better at the time so I risked it and I havent had any problems with them any more, so I think they got better :)

Thanks for the input all, I have done some more research on other review sites and appears that the WD Scopio Black comes out on top for most of the tests.

With a 5 year warranty I'm going to order one up and give them a go! wish me luck lol
