£2.69999K for a 3090? WTF

the steam stats are way off the real numbers. rtx 3000 only at 1% yea right gimme a break. don't use the steam numbers for anything other than to laugh at. 3000 series like selling more than 1000 and 2000 series combined, how does steam represent that? it doesnt.

I think you're highly underestimating the shortages. There's a reason they're going out of stock, and it's not just due to any perceived increase in demand. The 10 series sold like absolute hotcakes, but supply was plentiful so there wasn't any major drama.

not according to q1 sales figures direct from nvidia. ive looked at the gaming financials. 3000 series is outselling all previous series.

In number of units shifted I suspect there were far more 10 series sold.

If you are basing it on the price of cards then the 3000 series are going to add up to a lot even if units shifted are quite low.

Do you have access to the number of units sold for the 10XX and 30XX series.

no however from memory 1000 series was more less similar prices and you are talking 40% profit over all prior years from memory. considering 2000 series was also more expensive, it doesn't really take much to take that meaning 3000 series has vastly outsold previous 2 gens. i think many people are underestimating sales at this point.

Further, it's pretty clear that the 4000 series cards, assuming arrival in 3Q 2022, will be much more highly priced at launch. This is because semiconductor shortages are going to take 2 years to fully sort out, Chipfabs are still way oversubscribed, and Nividea can reduce angry subscribers waiting by costing most out if the market.

Why would miners use steam? My rigs don't even have a monitor and use a stripped down version of windows to get the highest hash rates. Any serious miner probably has enough money to have a 3090 anyways in their main PC.

or 10 in each rig...... this is where the 3090s are also ending up as well as huge farms.

Watch till end...

They don’t, that was my point. :D

Think I typed that ages ago, didn’t expect to be quoted on that today!

Wonder if that’s why they’ve binned the blower models. All being snapped up by miners when they want them to buy the special miner editions instead.

Well the blowers were really designed for workstations as in this article below that tests 4 x 3090 :-

I don't understand why you would use 3090's as their hash rate is not worth the extra money, 3080's give 100Mhz 3090's 120 makes very little sense to me from a mining perspective. Non the less it's a clean setup! Must be frustrating to watch for customers unable to get 3080/3090 for gaming :P

20% extra is nothing to be sniffed at especially because they will keep the value a lot better than a 10gb card in resale value, a year down the line.

No such thing as a 3080 blower card yet that's probably why they use them. I have no idea about mining so not getting into the mining topics.

I clicked the video hoping they were going to do something cool with 10 x 3090s but mining grrr... least cool thing ever to use that much power.
