2 days ago my bike broke down on me 70 miles from home! Had to be brought back in a transit van courtesy of Carol Cash!

Yesterday the girlfriends 206 decided it was going to spill the entire coolant in one swift go all over a Ford Probe who was right up our backside on the M3. Hello RAC!

Thinking it's either a water pump seal gone or (assuming modern engines still have them) a 'freeze relief plug' in the block that has popped. The water is pouring out as almost as fast as you can put it in.

Going to whip *** timing cover off in a bit to hopefully see what the problem is. Don't really fancy working on it in this weather!

Anyone else had this problem with a 206? For info it's a 1999 1.4 petrol.

Just took the top timing cover off and found a slightly mangled 'freeze relief plug' about an inch diamter wedged inside the timing cover. It has also chewed the timing belt a bit.

Anyone any ideas on costs to get this replaced? Will need a new timing belt as well.

£300-£400 all in at a local garage I would imagine

The girlfriend won't be happy!

I tried to put her off buying a French car.

In 2 years it's cost her a head gasket, a gearbox and a clutch. And now this.

Oh dear oh dear.

You can sit back and say - "I told you so" :p :D

My brother has a 306 GTi-6 which seems pretty good though.

Me? Rub it in? Never!!

A Pug garage just got back quoted £150 for the cam belt and plug so gonna try and get it towed there later.

I know one person with a Pug who hasn't actually had any problems with it out of about 15 owners. In my experience one of the most unreliable cars ever!

My 405 SRi was ace, no problems with it in over 40,000 miles of motoring.

Then someone burnt it :(
