NVMe one is "better", it's a bit faster.
Be aware you need a good modern chipset to boot from NVMe m.2. So Z170, nearly all x-99, and most decent z97 motherboards offer this functionality.
Though if you have the PCI lanes, and can boot from NVMe, consider this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-216-SA&groupid=701&catid=2104 .
Faster than either 951, with a 5 year warranty. Launches soon and available at the cheaper 256 variant(bit slower than the 512gb).

It's an MSI Krait X99A which i think supports the faster M.2. (With 5820k)

I'm aware of the new one coming out, I just didnt really want to wait and its £170 compared to £120, which might not seem like much but i've already spent about £2k...it has to stop somewhere :D.

Thanks for the info though :)

I would personally recommend the Samsung 950, as this is a consumer orientated drive, also gets higher quality NAND and a 5 year warranty with Samsung. Worth the extra in my opinion. And should at some point be fully supported in Samsung Magician, which I suspect the SM951's never will be (though the performance test runs OK).

While the SM951 is OEM and aimed at professional system builders. And there is and probably never will be, much support for these drives (IE. nothing can read the SMART data off them, Secure Erase them, or update the firmware on them). The warranty is only 2 years and is with the re-seller (in this case ocUK) rather than Samsung. I would STRONGLY recommend anyone interested in one of these drives, do their home work (no disrespect intended).

I bought an SM951 a while back and have been quite happy with it but if I was looking to buy now, then I would be getting a Samsung 950.

Up to you really :)
