Hello,

I've got 2 samsung 750gig HDs in my new Asus P5Q-E build.

I want to run 300gigs of these in Raid0 and the rest in Raid1, which the intel matrix raid thing will allow me to do.

Question is, if one of the HDs dies, will I still have access to the Raid1 bit of the drives, or will it take the whole array down with it?

Thanks.

Yes, the mirrored section of the array will still be accessible but if your OS is on the striped section then you'll need to recover that somehow before you can get at the mirrored data

AFAIK because the data is striped and mirrored across the two drives, if you lose one your data will remain 'safe'
As above. The OP is not talking RAID10 but a matrix raid mix with both a RAID0 and RAID1 array on the same paor of drives.

Yep I understood that, it's 50% RAID0 striped across two drives, and 50% RAID1 mirroring the striped array on the other half of those drives.

That was my understand as to how it worked, so if one drive fails the reminaing drive should be able to rebuild the data?

I've never actually done it mind you :)
