Would have gone for longer but I was cold, tired and my MBP had run out of battery...

Next attempt: August with a 10mm instead of 17mm and then for all night :D

it looks heavily processed around the top two edges. I do like it though.

Your location looks to be quite light poluted though.

Well all its had is +1 exposure and 30 or 40 blacks, 100% recovery and some LR 2 to sort the bottom out.

Color is original as the program made it, I didn't change it in LR.

Should be better on the south coast :)

very nice job.

The real key now you have the technique is to add some additional interest, like some cool foreground feature (mountain or some such). This is probably best done with a second exposure for the the foreground object (esp. if it might move like trees).

Most SLRs have something called bulb mode. Where the shutter stays open for as long as you press the shutter button. Do that with a remote for 2 hours and bob's your uncle.

With DSLR the sensor will get really hot which introduce all sorts of elements into the shot, not to mention there is also the power issue.

It was 24, 300 second exposures.

And I will try and get something in the foreground when I get a 10mm, that was 17mm so couldn't really get anything in without pointing it straight up to avoid light pollution!

South Coast i'll have another crack for sure :)

I really like shots like this. I've only ever managed it succesfully once when I was in Crete years ago. You need zero light pollution to keep the sky as dark as you can and thats a problem in the uk :(

Nice shot! :)

I would really like to try this multiple shot malarky, I've only tried star trails once and just did a single 30min exposure resulting in:

However as allready mentioned with this technique there is a lot of noise, here is a 100% without NR:

I was meant to be in the Alps for two weeks at the end of June and was planning on staying up in the mountains for a couple of nights to experiement with some Mountain night shots. Unfortunatly the trip had to be cancelled, but maybe another time...
