2 Identical HDD not working?

Hi,

Two hitachi saturn 2tb HDD's just arrived ready for my server. i put them in, werent detected in the bios or in windows. tried them in a different PC still the same. then held them up to my ear, on initial boot, before the bios, both drives spun up and made the same clicking noise (although very quiet) then they spin down as the bios kicks in.

i have phoned the company and they seem to think it was damages in transit, however the items were wrapped in about 5 inches of bubblewrap.

any ideas? :confused:

Clicking like that means the drive is most likely dead, it's entirely possible that they were dead before they were shipped to you.

At least they're empty!

yeh thats what i thort, they sort of make 4 short clicks then like a constant click for a second, then repeat. i thort they might be dead but i was thinking its a bit of a coincidence that 2 drives died?

Definitely dead if it's regular clicking like that. For two drives to die like that someone's done something daft - like dropped a whole box of them.
