2 in raid0 or just 1?

in my setup
3.5" 1TB Single Drive

3.5" 2x500GB Raid0

so benchmark wise, well worth it. real world, cant say i notice any real difference.

RAID will be quicker, but if one drive fails then you lose all data (as the data is spread over both, hence is being quicker to read from).

I don't think you'll notice a massive difference though, plus it means twice the heat and noise (unless you go for SSD).

but can the same not be said about having 1x1TB drive, if that 1 drive fails, you loose all data

I meant to say, there is twice the risk with RAID :)

this i would then agree with. the risks far outweigh the gains with technology the way it is now. back in the day Raid0 was a good performance boost, now hard drives with large cache and quick seek times are soo cheap its not worth the hassel.

I was actually thinking of getting two 1tb drives for raid1, but then was thinking raid0, and should I get four 500gb drives and run raid10.

same space, extra speed.

but it would end up costing more, maybe it's better to save the cash and get cache with a small SSD on a Z68 MB.

You wont see the benefits outside of benchmarks going for a Raid setup in a home environment :) Unless of course you buy SAS or SSD

I do notice that load times in games are quicker on my RAID 0 setup, however you are bound to hit problems at some point. One of my hard drives got errors on it within 2 months and is currently away for RMA. Definitely notcied a speed loss just using the 1 500gb drive along side my ssd.
