well, businesses use it for things like:
connection1 for emails, ftp
connection2 for web, video streaming, gaming
Not sure if it adds that much of an overhead tbh, not researched that.
QOS prioritises whatever application needs the connections the most according to the way you set it up.

The more intensive the QOS mechanism, generally speaking, the more overhead it requires. Thats quite an in-depth article but it explains it better than I can.

Just to update this today I tried connecting directly into the master socket. First I phoned O2, they dropped the SNR and my connection went up to 9.2mb. I used the standard short cable and plugged it directly into the master socket and used a LAN cable straight to a Laptop, it then sync'd at 9.4mb, so with my extension cable I'm loosing 200Kb, which tbh is what I was expecting.

I spoke to Draytek about their load balancing routers and they said it would not enable me to increase the speed by adding the 2 connections together so thats out the window.

Edit - back on the long extension cable now and sync speed is Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,325 / 9,403. So now its the same as it was into the master socket.

Edit 2 - To hell with it, I just ordered a router, I will now get rid of the other 2 and just use this one, its load balancing at least my connection will be good as long as one of the providers is working. Draytek 2820n http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2820.html

I`m using it for routing, bandwidth management and content filtering for my home network.
Its a good bit of kit. but I`ve not tired it with multiple connections though.
There's a pdf manual on the site which might help.

You can get free, socks proxy software that'll load balance (Well, I say load balance, it probably just round robins) over two interfaces in windows, this would allow you a theoretical maximum throughput over usenet of 28mbps, providing you have multiple usenet simultaneous connections.

I looked into this a while back, google for it.
