2 Monitors on 290X Crossfire?

Hi,

I've got a 1440p monitor (144Hz) and UHD monitor (60Hz).
I'd like to connect 2 both monitors to a 290x, well, 290X Crossfire if that makes a difference but I think you can only connect to the top card.

Both monitors need DisplayPort 1.2 but the 290X only has a single DisplayPort.
Is there any way I can do this? Like a dual DVI to DP adaptor or something?

AMDMatt suggested connecting one monitor to each card, but I tried this and it didn't work, only the top monitor showed up.
And he suggested a MST (?) adaptor, but later confirmed they split the signal and 50% of a DisplayPort 1.2 signal isn't enough for either.

So is there anything I can do?

With the higher resolutions and DX12 incoming I'm wondering if the 290X Crossfire setup might be better than my 980 SLI setup going forward.

I couldnt figure this out either, i ended up just using my onboard for my other monitor and let my crossfire run the main monitor, works ok but just means ya have to enable your onboard GPU and set up your monitor in the Intel settings.

I find it odd your 60hz monitor doesnt have HDMI.

I have three monitors connected to a single R9 390X and I run crossfire ...

Im not using DP on all three monitors, I am using the HDMI ports on my monitors with converter cables to DVI for all three but the third monitor has an active displayport converter on it.

I am sure for two monitors you can just connect one to DP and one to dvi on your gpu with a converter ??

If you want to connect each monitor via DP you need to buy different GPU's with more DP connections on them, not the answer you might be looking for I am sure as I have the same issue really, to use Freesync you need to be connected via DP so no point in me buying Freesync monitors atm as my cards only have a single DP connection on them.

as an example this has 3 x DP on it.

As for sticking with Crossfire this will be my last Crossfire setup I think as I am hoping the new cards coming out later in the year will be good enough to replace the twin card setup and allow me to buy three Freesync monitors to replace my current setup.

The 60Hz monitor does have HDMI ports but they only do UHD (3840 x 2160) at 30Hz.

Does onboard have DisplayPort 1.2? Otherwise that wouldn't gain me anything as I need DP to run the UHD monitor at 60Hz.

Thinking about it the 1440p/144Hz monitor is Freesync but my Fury X cards are using the DisplayPort so I'd need to use a DisplayPort-to-HDMI2.0 adapter. Another chunk of money to spend if I want to use AMD...

If you already have a DP cable that's the one to use on the 1440 monitor and then just use a HDMI to DVI cable I got mine from OCUK and you are up and running ....

less than £7 ....

Use the 980 SLi setup if you don't want to spend more and remove any possibility of duff converter support.

My onboard DP has max resolution 2560x1600@60 Hz, check your mb spec for DP support.

Depending on how much it is having to pay for a converter is annoying but not a deal breaker.
Duff converter support or similar things is a worry though. Had a Startech.com mini-DP-to-Active-Dual-Link-DVI converter a while back and it was useless. £75 that cost me so I could go eyefinity with 3 120Hz Samsung screens on my 7950 CF. Then it didn't work...

Apparently my motherboard's DisplayPort is 1.2 and supports UHD/4K @ 60Hz. That may well be a solution!

Yes, great news on your DP 1.2, honestly wouldn't want to go down the route of converters myself, heard too many horror stories and the sounds of things you've had one first hand.:(

Even if the mb DP wasn't to work out, I'd just throw the 980's in instead, one might be a bit faster here or there game dependent anyway and you should know by now which mgpu setup supports the games you play more.:)

I probably won't bother unless DX12 proves to tilt things significantly in the 290X's favour over the 980s.
Nice to have the option though.

Converter is far from ideal, but at least it allos me 1440p @ 144Hz instead of 1440p @ 60Hz.
