I have a 20" TFT (Samsung 205BW) and a 21" CRT (Sony Trinitron E530) at the moment. A nice combination - I do photo/video work on the CRT and text/web/email on the TFT. I'm thinking however of adding a 3rd or even a fourth. Maybe move the CRT up a shelf and us almost exclusively for video and TV (and have a TV card) leaving two or three TFTs on the main desk level.

Anyone do this? What are the issues?

Hardware wise I use a nVidia P5N-E SLI motherboard (2 PCIe x16, 1 PCIe 1x and 2 PCI 2.2) and (ATI 1950PRO (two DVI). So far just have the ATI card in one PCIe and the TV card in one of the regular PCI slots.

Can I just get something cheap like the £30:
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO SILENT 256MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (11109-01-20R)

The 1950PRO is a Sapphire version with a large low-noise HSF.

Not sure about using both PCIE video card slots for two different cards, was under the impression you couldnt do this.

You can however just get old cheap PCI card, stick it in one your PCI slots, I did this with a Radeon 9800 & a Radeon 7000 at one point for 3 monitors (could have gone to 4) though it can be problematic with certain combinations of cards/drivers. Pot luck really.

Was something on a competitors website where it was a USB connection you plugged into your pc and installed the drivers then plugged other end into monitor, hey presto another display. Looked a bit odd really, is a fairly well known bits and bobs electrical retailer though and was about £50 iirc, USB to VGA i think it was.

Can anyone confirm this? Can I use something like a 2400 PRO along side my 9800PRO in an nVidia SLI board? I don't want to do anything more fancy than run three or four monitors.

I'm tempted to have a 20" WS on the left, a 20" WS in the middle - portrait and and the 21" CRT on the right...

Plenty of room on the desk.

my mate has a 24" dell in the middle 2 17" in portrait on either side and then a new zalman 22" 3D trimon on the right, has somet like 6.7million pixels of desktop real estate is awesome.

aslong as you dont have the motherboard in SLI mode then adding a 2nd card in the 2nd PCIe slot would be fine, it would just run at 4x instead of 8x/16x

you sods have got me tempted into getting my 17" crt out of living room and sticking it on my desk with my 19" TFT and 15" TFT now, but ill need to buy a PCI gfx card. Hm, not spotted anything on ultramon about 2+ monitors, does it still work spot on? Could be handy having an msn monitor tbh =)

I know you can do it, I'd imaging they'd have to atleast use the same drivers though.

I'm running 3 screens on an 8800GT and 7200GS, both cards run off the 8800GT with zero problems so far! :)

However before buying the 7200 I got word on here that someone was succesfully using an 8800 and 7300, so maybe try and find someone with a combo close to yours already just to be safe.

you could always get something ridiculous like an IBM T221. 9 million pixels of desktop realestate!
