Hi

firstly i would like to get an IR filter for my camera but i wanted to know if there is a way to alter an image PP to give it an IR effect? or can it only be done at the time of shooting?

secondly i have a 10D and i was wondering what is the fastest speed memory card that this can use before it suffers a buffer bottleneck - i ask because i use a sandisk ultra III extreme which is the fastest card and no doubt faster than my camera but what card speed would be closest matching to the camera buffer? as i might consider trading it for a higher capacity one that still gives me the same performance (makes sense dont you think?)

thanks guys.

IR Shots will come out purple if your using default settings due to the colour of the filter. What you need to do is ideally...

1) Shoot in RAW
2) Take a custom white balance shot of whatever you want white in the final image (usually grass, foliage etc) with the filter on.
3) Take the shot
4) In post processing swapping the red and blue channels will give a more interesting final image - or use Brad's IR Action in PS.

Quick IR guide. Take a white piece of paper and take a photo of it with your IR filter on. Once you've done that set the custom white balance to that photo. To do that goto the menu, Custome White Balance, pick that photo. Then set the camera to custom white balance. What this does is help to remove the red/purple tint. Once you've done that take pictures as normal. Remove the filter, compose the shot put the filter back on. Another handy tip is to set the focus control to another button. That way when you push the shutter button the camera won't try and refocus. Once you've done all that and got the pictures home use this action. That will change the red and blue channels and make them look like this (depending on the lens - taken with the Canon 50mm);
