Ok so finally the time has arrived (well will do on thursday :p) that I finally have enough cash to get a mobo and processor.

I'll have about £250 - £300 to spend on the mobo and processor together and I'm Ideally looking to get an E6600 (but I may budge on this if persuaded) and I just need advice on motherboards mainly.

It will be used with 2gb geil pc6400c4 ram and a 7950gt 512mb graphics card if this helps.

The second question involves a small problem.

I purchased an antec 900 gaming case a couple o' months back along with an OCZ modstream 520w psu when I thought I would have enough money the next month to get the rest of the components (turned out I didn't and have since been itching to get started).

Noe I'm a first time builder so I'll probably be back with more questions (lol n00b <---) but the problem is that I was told that the cables from the power supply are all too short. If this is the case, then how do I extend them easily? I noticed that one forum member has said psu and case (can't remember who) so I'm guessing it can be installed and used in this case.

Sorry about long post but just wanted to explain situation (I get a tad carried away)

Thanks :)

Yeah I was thinking about the Abit 650 board actually. I may just have to go for that one :)

Any reason not to go for the 6600? Just to check.

And does anyone have an answer to my psu cable length problem? :(

You could go for the E6300/6400 and still clock very well - 3GHz+ and save the money for something else. It depends if you are much of an overclocker or not ;)

Can't comment on PSU query, no idea I'm afraid.

Hmm, well I've managed to get my p4 640 from 3.2 to 3.6 but it was highly unstable and it borked my windows install. After that it just didn't want to clock anymore at all.

I'm slowly learning I think :p lol

But I'd like to get into it. Mainly because I like the thought of being a little ******* and screwing intel out of some more Mhz for the same amount of cash :D

Thanks for the help though. I think it's mainly a choice now of 6400/6600?

Well with a E6600 and a good board like that Abit one you won't need to do much to enter the big numbers! If you have the cash to throw then go for that chip, I have one myself haven't overclocked yet though.

Ahhh right so it's much easier to get the e6600 and OC that rather than an e6300 and OC a lot while messing with voltages and so on?

Also on a related OC'ing note, why is it that when I right click properties in my computer it shows the cpu at 3.56 yet cpuz shows it as 3.12?

Which is the true speed and why is it different?!
