I'm looking to splash out a little but I really have no clue when it comes to hard drives and what would be best suited for my needs so I'm going to tell you what my needs are and hopefully you can help me. I do a lot of gaming, games usually with a lot of loading time. In my mind I am thinking get a 150GB raptor and put my OS, Progs and Games on it. Then use my current 320GB piece of crap WD hard drive to store everything I download(a lot) and keep music and things like that on. Am I mental? does it even work like this. what would you recommend?

I have two in my saved basket right now and I have the budget for two. I am assuming 2xfastest harddrive = fastest ever EVER! but does it work like this?

Help really appreciated!

Haha sup meck!

For most applications raid-0 (two drives together to form a striped array) you wont see a massive peformance increase. It does give you a lot more sustained throughput. I cant remember the address but i saw some benchmarks showing a reduction in about 10-20 seconds for a big game load. (Doom3, HL2 + Farcry i think)

I've gone for 2x300gb drives for my new computer but thats because i'm doing a lot of video editing and it certainly makes a difference there.

If you want ultimate speed then raid0 is the way to go, though the peformance increase for what you are using your computer for might not be worth it. Is 10-20seconds that important to you? :)

*edit* Actually it was 10-20 seconds total for all the games, individual differences were like 3-4 seconds on a 20 second load.... so maybe not worth it for a gaming machine?
