hi
so i was going to get a gtx 680 to go with my new build(kinda new to it all so forgive me if i sound stupid!) as i wanted the best, while money isnt really the issue decided against gtx 690 cos of the price of it.can anyone tell me what difference id see with 2 x gtx 670 compared to a 680? explain in layman's terms for me as im not that technical yet,im using a single monitor(1920x1080 max res) and want to play any and all games at max settings also used for adobe photoshop. while money is not the issue i dont want to throw it down the drain,so am i better off just getting a single 670/680 or 2x670 or should i just bite the bullet and go 690?
any help greatly appreciated
thx

Hi, if your gaming on a 60hz monitor and you enable vsync 60fps is the highest your gonna get and at the moment a 670 should be able to hit that in most games and a 680 will only gain you a few fps. I'd get a 670 see how it goes if you feel in a few month time you want more power grab another as prices will have dropped.... I think at the moment for your res sli is probably overkill, spend the extra cash in an ssd

What's your current card? 2 x 670 is a lot faster than a single 680 and almost as fast as a 690.

Well you say "almost as fast" and "a lot faster" but really if you had 2x 680 then you would be getting more than 1 x 690. 2 x 670 in laymans terms would give you in most cases upto 2x the performance of a single 670. Now a 670 is about 10% slower or so than a 680 performance wise if I remember correctly I could be wrong. Hope you manage to make sense of that OP xD

the monitor is 75hz max(does that mean i can get 75fps?)

im kinda feeling this is probably the best idea but im one of those "gotta have it now types" unless completely wasting my time,do you think i will visually see a dif between single 670 and sli?

while i can appreciate 2 x 670 is twice the power im failing to understand where i would see the dif over a single 670 or 680 if indeed i would at all! in which case whats the point i guess? just want to have the best without paying stupidly over the top and not be restricted in any way with latest games.

By visually do you mean frames per second? Because that's the only difference you will notice. The games will look the exact same.

i guess so now youve said that! if the fps is slower surely the game is slower or am i bringing too much into it and its truely nothing id notice? thx for your help

Basically your eye only registers up to 60 refreshes a second (60Hz) If your graphics card is managing 60 frames a second the game screen is being refreshed 60 times every second which your monitor is capable of. Having SLI 670s would allow you to have better antialiasing and other things that make the screen look more pretty.

oh ok think im with you now,so its kinda down to small detail rather than actual movement on screen?and i guess anything over 60fps is wasted anyway?

I don't believe that tbh, I can easily notice a difference over 60fps
