2 XBox 360s on one network problem

Not sure if anyone can help (or if this is in the right place!). A mate of mine has 2 360s on his home network (his and his flatmate's), if they try and play online at the same time, they are usually fine for 3-5 mins then they are disconncted from Xbox Live.

I've tried port forwarding, putting one in the DMZ, checking NAT - nothing makes any difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions apart from needing two external IP addresses?

Thanks

Iain

I only have issues with CoD4 where 2 of us can't play online at the same time :(

Wish I could solve the problem!

Have you tried MAC address filtering? What router is it mate and have you tried updating the firmware for it?

I can't think of any way around this as the ports for xbox live ae hard coded in the 360, so can't be changed manually (maybe one for a future update, but beyond most people's needs to be honest).

I assume one of your machines has the follwing ports forwarded:
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074
And when the other machine checks these ports it knocks the other/both off Live.

From a networking point of view, I cannot see how you could fix this, unless you set up 2 subnets or had 2 seperate IP addresses and or routers/switches. Doubt any consumer kit allows this easiy.

(no help, just information, which you probably knew already :D)

That's an odd one, me and my mate were sat side by side doing that the other day. Neither of the consoles are set as the DMZ either, just automatic to the router and both get 'OPEN' for the NAT settings.

I had LOADS of problems with my net and router before (BT Total) but after calling BT and getting some woman remote connect she changed all the settings on the router and laptops and now everything (a total of 11 Wi-Fi devices) connect to the network perfectly.

I've not tried MAC filtering, the routers tried have been a Linksys BEFW11S4, WRT54G and a Belkin G+MIMO. All updated firmware, none worked.

Worked fine at the LAN too on an identical router!

Grrr...

Had this exact problem couple of days ago when housemate got a 360, found that it was because neither of us had named our consoles, in the network settings sections.

It now works fine.

Thanks - I shall give that a try and report back

try setting up the ip addresses for the 360's manually if possible. i have frequently had 2 360's hooked up to my network with no issues at all. mine has a manual ip address and the other was set to auto, so that may even work. it just ensures there are no ip clashes.

Well my mate has got a temp solution - he's got a splitter (provided incase he used IPTV) and a second modem. This seems to have sorted the problem for now

I'll try the manual and auto IP as well
