I have had my laptop for 2 years now with the same install of Windows and it is getting slower and slower to load, Is there any way I can speed up the load up times without starting afresh. :)

Download, install and run Crap Cleaner and remove all the useless junk that has bult up over time.

Download, install and run Bootvis to speed up booting.

Of course, antivirus and antispyware scans are a must also as is a good old fashioned defrag. You could also check out a registry cleaner and compactor such as Tune Up 2006, Ashampoo Winoptimizer, WinASO, jv16Tools or ACE Utilities - there are loads of them.

Uninstall all programs you have on it that you dont need.

Use something like CleanUp! to rid your self of any old files.

Run defrag and scandisk.

cross fingers!

Ok already have and have run cc cleaner, I will try bootvis now.

Is it just the age of the install that is causing the problem?

nothing beats a format + reinstall tbh, no matter how macny things up uninstall and remove the registry will be huge compared to a fresh install

BEST OPTIONS YOU HAVE!

1. RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP> untick whatever you think is not needed on the start up list! This will give you a 15-50% boost! USE this website to check what you need and what you dont

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

2. Defrag you HDD to place all you files an folder on their places

3. Use REGISTRY CLEANER to delete broken, empty, not valid entery keys

In your place i would have formated and start from the begining!

Perfect Disk 7/8
Bootvis
CrapCleaner
Spybot S&D
Tuneup utilities 2k6
adaware

thats what i use every month to speed it back up when i installed.
