Not if they go under (come on, it can't be long now) - gift cards are normally treated as unsecured debt and hence you'll be lucky to get 1/2p per £.

Like the OP, I've got a pile of WHSmith vouchers. Thing is, if I wanted a book I'd go to Waterstones or the independent in town, stationary I'd go to the independent up the street, magazines I want I'm subscribed to, Newspapers I go to a newsagents, DVDs/Blu-Rays I'd buy from online from the Jersey lot (cheaper and more selection - so no incentive to buy retail). Can't think of the last time I went to a WHSmiths retail store!
