Maybe you guys can help me. I'm after a new LCD (or two) and am thinking of upgrading to widescreen. Right now I have an LG1715S which I've been very pleased with... but I want more space!

I've been thinking about getting either a Samsung SM-226BW 22" W, a Dell E228WFP 22" W, or a pair of Viewsonic VA2012W-2 20" W.

I do a mixture of gaming (BF2/CS:S mostly), dev work (writing software and websites), and surfing t'internet. If anyone has those screens, what are their impressions of them? Are either of the 22" worth the extra cash or should I just go for the dual 20"?

Something you may want to look out for is the monitors you have there all having the same native resolution - despite two brands having two more inches to look at.

I must admit I'd noticed that.. and some quick calculations indicate that the Viewsonic's are only 1cm taller:

Code:
         | 17" | 20" | 22"
---------------------------------
diagonal | 43.2 | 50.8 | 55.9
ratio | 1.3 | 1.6 | 1.6
angle | 0.9 | 1.0 | 1.0
width | 34.5 | 43.1 | 47.4
height | 25.9 | 26.9 | 29.6

I just bought a 226BW a couple of days ago, after using a 19" CRT for the last 5 years. Much as you have spotted the 206BW has exactly the same resolution so pound for pound should be a tad sharper in practice. However, I feel there's a minimum size for widescreen and 22" is about it (plus that's all I could afford, lol). I can't speak for any of your shortlisted monitors but as for the Sammy? I doubt you'd be disappointed. It's the single biggest upgrade I've ever made and I love it. Incredibly sharp and the colours are wonderful. The build seems good too. Very stylish indeed.
