I'm looking to upgrade the GPU in my PC as it's getting on a bit.

Intel i7 950
Gigabyte X58 motherboard
24GB of RAM :D
ATI 6950 2GB
Corsair 750W PSU.
24" 1920x1200 monitor.

It's either ATI 480 8GB or Nvidia 1060 6GB, they're both around the same price.

The 1060 seems to be the faster card, until Vulkan is considered. Also the sync system as I beleive ATI have more open source type of v-sync monitor connection though not sure about that haven't read much into it.

They will both handle your resolution fine, i think just pick one ya find on offer, see if theres any deals on the store atm on either of them.

Are you overclocking that old i7? Might help keeps your minimum FPS a bit higher so your not holding back the card too much.

well 1060 if you want shadowplay and 480 if you want the cheapest monitor sync tech and for it to be supported when the next gen gpus come out. So if you plan on keeping it for a long time i would say 480 is the better choice.

What do you mean "for it to be supported when the next gen gpus come out"?

I think he means ATI offer performance increases on older products. saying that ATI seem to drop support for older GPU's. I still think 6950 should be still supported (they dropped support for it)

Did a quick search for shadowplay . Not intersted in that.
