So a friend wants a cheap system to play games such as Just Cause 2 MP.

He has a crappy 470GTS already, but that's all. (Will have to run games in 720p on that POS).

I've had a quick price up but I'd like to see peoples AMD CPU and board suggestions for potentional best OC combo.

I know what you're thinking. "£200, gaming my arse..."

your going to have to look at second hand pc's to get anything even half decent.

There you go, challenge (almost) met.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) HDD £38.99
1 x Asus A55BM-E AMD A55 Chipset (Socket FM2+) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £37.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED34GM1600HC11DC01) £32.99
1 x Imp MicroATX Tower Case (500w PSU) £31.99
1 x AMD A4-4000 3.00GHz (Socket FM2) APU Richland Dual Core Processor (AD4000OKHLBOX) £31.99
1 x OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £202.44 (includes shipping : £11.25).

And it's properly crap with a PSU that'll likely die horribly and take out other gear with it. I'll probably sound a bit elitist, but I can't understand people wanting these super cheap builds for gaming. If you can't afford to do it even remotely properly, don't bother in my opinion.

If you could get this budget upto £300 with that existing graphics card you could get something "ok". At £200 its a real challenge and the below is the best I could manage.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Pentium G3430 3.30GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £69.95
1 x MSI H81M-P33 Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £42.95
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) HDD £38.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED34GM1600HC11DC01) £32.99
1 x Imp MicroATX Tower Case (500w PSU) £31.99
Total : £230.36 (includes shipping : £11.25).

Get rid of that CD drive and bump up the processor to an A6 imo. CD's are on the way out

For £253 you can get

cheapest case, 4gb mem, 500W evga psu, cheapest hard drive, cheapest mobo and a quad core trinity.......

You can get the same with a dual core Richland for £213.

So you can get close enough, would it be great, meh, would it be good enough, sure. If you spent £300 you end up with 8gb memory, a better case for quieter running and a bigger hard drive.

agree with this
i wanted to move away from console gaming, i knew the PS4/xbone was going to be around the £600 with games etc
so i tried to build a "cheap" gaming pc for £400 and that included the graphic card!
cannot be done....
so sold my macbook air (got £800 for it) and decided to spend £1200 on my gaming pc...
and even after spending that much it still aint no where what i would call 'high end'

if just needed say ram, cpu and mobo.. then £200 you could get away with
but case, power supply as well.
id get an xbox 360 or ps3!

Some people have very little money.

I agree, I'd spend at least £750 on a PC.

He isn't going to be playing Metro or Crysis 3.

The PCs on ebay are ****e atm. All brand named stuff and I don't trust peoples nooby custom builds. But yeh, I'll find him either a 2nd PC or salvage parts from ebay and/or own business PC shops.

I'll update what I find within the week.

It's a lost cause really...the budget being so small makes it hard work...which I why I turned to forums...'cause I got a case of the lazies.
