£2000-2400 system

Very nice indeed. I had a lower budget (crept up a little after a while from £1300 to £1800) but essentially I had very similar purpose as you. I don't do any 3D modelling anymore but quite a bit of video, audio and image authoring.

The guy on here helped me spec a great system, not too different to yours, 4770K, H100i, Gigabyte UD5H Z78, Sammy 256GB 840 Pro, NZXT Phantom case, DDR3 32GB 2133MHz and a GTX 780 as well as a few other SSD's and fans etc.

It's all built up and in the process of install all my software now. Would be really interesting to see how you get on with your animation - what software do you use btw?

Indeed it is pure filth :P Thanks a lot for the feedback.

One last question, going with this motherboard, CPU and either 2 way SLI 770s or the single 780, which would be the better PSU to go with:
XFX Pro 1000W Black Edition '80+ Platinum' Certified Modular Power Supply
or
Corsair Professional Series AX 860W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply

Nice nice! How's it working out for you so far?
I mainly use MAYA, 3D studio and use flash every now and then :P

H100i pumps dying??? Not heard of this before, only the whining fan noise, which I don't seem to be getting. My 4470K at stock hovers around 28C with the rad in a push-pull config, not sure if that's average or good.

I want to run the system in for a while longer before I OC.

Have they improved the closed loop coolers? I've tried 3 or 4 of them a year or two ago and they drove me bat**** over the various gurglings. I ended up going with air coolers like the Tranquilo which allow a moderate overclock and don't make any noise.

I've still got to install all my software, but it seems to be going great so far, minus a few glitches.

I used to use 3D studio and even taught it at one time, this is many many moons ago, but never tried Maya. My work mainly revolves around video/audio/photography with photography being a personal interest too. I do miss all the animation though. I remember creating a 1min 30sec scene where a housefly hovers around a mirrored room and into a computer case where it mutated into a 'fly-copter' and flew around a virtual city made up of a motherboard, lol. I think it took about 3-4 days to render with all the ray tracing I used :D The good old days

Good good!

3D stuido is good but I prefer MAYA right now, as I've gotten more used to using it over 3D studio. That and i feel like its just overall superior :p
haha :D that sounds awesome :P 3-4 days to render 1min 30sec is unheard of these days :D

Haha, I remember reading somewhere that one of Pixar's busiest weeks they managed to render an astonishing 3mins of animation!

I'm not sure if ray-tracing is still used or whether there is now a more efficient way of working with light, refraction and reflection etc.

Either would be up to the job, the corsair psu matched the rest of the build and you can get the matching cables too :)
