There's a new challenge on in my gym, row 2000m in the quickest time possible.
There are only 2 scores on the board so far, the top being 7:57:2.
I have tried it a couple of times and I usually aim for 6 minutes for 1500m so thought 8minutes for 2000 would be do-able. To my suprise I have managed to get 7:48:8 on the second attempt. I was busting a gut but did it all the same

Whats your best so I have a good time to aim for (and not the the world record of 5:36!)

FYI the levels have no influence on time/performance with the Concept 2.

Level 1 may seem easier because there's less resistance but your stroke rate has to be a lot higher to match the same power output as level 10.

6:03 about 5 years ago!

Now about 6:20 but if I felt like killing myself I could probably get it down again, but it would take time. I original started like the OP with gym comps before starting it properly on water - it is one thing I have always been naturally good at.

I have raced side by side with the likes of Graham Benton and Phil Turnham and they really are monsters - 1:26 average splits all the way!

The challenge was won by someone who got 7:21. Looks like I / we have some working to do

On the plus side I bought a garmin heart rate monitor and my resting HR is 55-60bpm, which apparently is pretty good.

Downside is that I put my ant stick in that safer place when I moved into my new house that I can't find it. Annoying

I've been rowing for a year and today set my new PB which is 7mins 12 secs. Took just over 3 seconds off my previous PB which I set in September.

Must admit, I couldn't do much afterwards except for a gentle bike ride and a short run....and very little work when I got back into the office!! Not sure if I'll be back in their tomorrow.

This was my PB in March last year:

at that point I had been rowing for about a year and a half. There is no pain like it. Whenever our coach says 'you have a 2k test next week' you can see the dread appear on everyone's faces.

My HR hit 204bpm during that one, and was over 193bpm from 400m in.

EDIT: If we're talking about impressive ergo scores... Eric Murray did a 10k last year in 31:05...

Silly, silly numbers.

Christ. Your 6:46 time is fantastic... 6:13/2km for 10k is just ridiculous.

I havent tried 2k since I started this thread as have been ill (man flu)

The highest my heart rate has been recently is 187 with resting usually ~50

Was hoping to get it down to 6:35 this year, although my progress has been hindered already by back issues and illness.

Yeah Murray's 10k is ridiculous. He's a tank.

I dont get where im going wrong as im holding the strokes per minute at 40+ yet getting 1:56 500 metres.. :s

Most likely a combination of a couple of things: Resistance of the machine and technique

What setting do you have the resistance on? (The 1-10 thing on the side of the fly wheel) It should be just below 7.

Technique wise, check out a few rowing technique videos on YouTube., this one is good:

Going up and down the slides at 40+ isn't going to get you the fastest splits, it's all about application of power
