2005 A1GP Championship - Round 1 - Brands Hatch

the sport has only been running an hour and AUS and NZ are already battling each other :D This is gonna be a good series with all these rivalries.

Australia Vs New Zealand
Great Britain Vs France
Great Britain Vs Germany
India Vs Pakistan
USA Vs everyone...

He's certainly got his fathers car control. If it's like this in the race but with overtaking...

I think I've just messed myself...

They've only had 3 months to work on it - it's the first race - I'm expecting there will be changes.

Bikini for blondie would be a good start. ;)

Looks like there's a few wrinkles with the on car cameras, the main one was the lack of timings tbh. Give me timings and I can forgive the rest..

Where?

There's the button to see the "view live race stats" which so far hasn't been updated live...

And apparently Sheikh Maktoum threw a absolute wobbler after the TV coverage - apparently several arses were given a hiding. :D

He really wants this series to work. I don't blame him - the races should be superb but if the TV coverage is bad, fewer people will go and see it live.

The driver who took part in qualifying may not be the one who competes in both races. Any of the A1 Team’s drivers that have set a practice time within 102 per cent of the team’s fastest qualifying lap are in with a chance to race.

All the A1 Teams will use the drivers who qualified today for both of tomorrow’s races except for A1 Team Malaysia who will use Fairuz Fauzy for the Sprint race and Alex Yoong for the Feature race.

The Sprint race will be contested over 50 miles lasting up to 30 minutes in duration. With a rolling start at 13.30 BST, tomorrow’s race will be run over 18 laps of the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch. The outcome of the race determines the grid position of the Feature race which will start at 15.00 BST with a standing start. The Feature race will be run over 100 miles (36 laps) lasting up to 60 minutes in duration.

I watched the coverage online. Good race, but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of overtaking. Out of the front five cars, there was only one postion change in the whole race.

We will have to see how the feature race goes.

The video feed was good. Windows Media player somehow stretched the original widescreen coverage to 4:3 so its distorted. The biggest problem with the feed is the lack of commentary. You can occasionally hear the commentary that the spectators can hear, but not very often. IMO this should be piped out along with the feed. The actual video coverage of the race was good though. I assume this is the same as what went out on Sky?

Brands Hatch is crap for overtaking...

Sace the asx file *from the load in an external player* and open it in Media Player Classic - you can then adjust the aspect ratio using the 8, 2, 4 and 6 keys *on the numberpad* to stretch or shrink the screen - if you mess up use 5 to reset

Was the came coverage near enough.

Anyway - I have notes... ;)

Simon/~Flibster

Well - the live stream was a nice touch - was only running 5 seconds or so behind the TV feed. :D

However - it was broadcast in 16:9 so ideally you need Media Player Classic to open the asx file so you can asdjust it to 16:9 instead of the 4:3 it wants to show it in.

Minor issue though.

Anyway - nice that Sheikh Maktoum did the For the pride of your nations bit...

Also - how nice is that trophy. Gold and Silver things wrapping round with a glass globe on top. That beats the Australian F1 trophy.

And the start of the Sprint race is underway...

France up into 2nd past New Zealand

Brazil in the lead.

Netherlands has spun possibly - looks like hes stuck. Few bits of wreckage around - Actually - accident.

After lap 1.

Netherlands was smacked up the bum by South Africa. Which sounds painfull.

Not running that closely at the moment. I was expecting the cars to be closer. However - they may not be fighting to much as the feature race is yet to come and they don't want to rsk it.

Portugal is right up behind Pakistan - very close.

You can tell the difference between the top drivers and the lower drivers - 3 seconds a lap...

Brazil go fastest on lap 5 - 1:17.255

France go fastest again - 1:17.141 - lap 7

Still reasonably stationary on lap 10. Brazil seem to be comfortable in the lead.

Portugal having a good wiggle through Paddock Hill Bend - nicely held though.

Good old Opera - reloading the live timing page every 5 seconds. :D

South Afrrica are still running.

Aaaah...Live Timing has stopped...gone blank.

Time for some guesswork. :D

Oooh...and it's back.

Pakistan and Portugal are still fighting for 7th place.

Switzerland and Ireland are fighting for 9th.

Japan and Malaysia for 12th

Brazil is slowly pulling out a lead - up to 2.3 on lap 13.

Lap 16 - 2 Laps to go...

Not much happening - ones mentioned above are still close. Thats the problem with Brands Hatch - nowhere really to overtake.

Final Lap...

Brazil are going to take the flag win at the first A1GP race...

Well Done Brazil and Nelson Piquet Jr..

Lovely drive - not a single wheel wrong.
