Dear god...I had forgotten how much I hate that eagle nosed prat who hosts the F1...

Someone please get rid of the conky goit...lets go for someone with personality. Please??

Get Brundle, Brundell and Jardine hosting it. They have personality and experience in the sport.

Heh...Anthony Davidson just call the pit wall by what it tends to be known as by the drivers - the prat perch. :D Never heard that on tv before. :D

Oooh...now talking about the Minardi situation...

I'd be so tempted to have a new logo of **** Ferrari down the side. :D

The 2004/05 modified car parts sound so dodgy...some of the 05 car - some cut up 04 parts...I certainly wouldn't want to drive it.

Trulli - 1:35.270
Webber - 1:36.717
Klien - 1:37.486
Coulthard - 1:38.320
Heidfeld - 1:39.717
Button - 1:41.512
Karthikeyan - 1:44.357
Monteiro - 1:46.846
Albers - 1:49.230
Friesacher - 1:50.864

Minardi's look HORRIBLE to drive - Jordan doesn't seem much better. Weaving all over the place under braking.

Track is drying out - Higher teams may be able use the Intermediates rather than wets..maybe...

Williams doesn't look too bad. Webber is absolutely flying. BAR doesn't look right...doesn't seem able to to carry the speed through the corner and has to accelerate later.

Circuit is drying all the time - who's going to be the bravest and go on "slicks" instead of Inters...

Coulthard as usual - Slow in single lap qualifying. Will he beat Klien..Nope... He's complaining of oversteer.

Webber - 1:36.717
Villeneuve - 1:36.984

Albers - 1:49.230
Friesacher - 1:50.864
Mi. Schumacher - 1:57.931
Massa - Did not finish his lap
Sato - Boogered his car on his out lap- suspension front and rear and nose cone broken.

Villeneuve - Brave person - gone for "slicks". He nearly binned the car in the wall on his out lap. :D

Fisi also on slicks. Huge black cloud coming though. Could help Fisi. :D

Villeneuve threw it off the track on his in lap as well.

******* it down now....Massa on on slicks. Fisi looks like he timed it perfectly. Massa is all over the place. Can't keep it on the track. - 1st sector - 27 seconds down. Damn.

Schumacher has gone out on the Intermediate Bridgestone tyre. Sadly - since then - it's started it hammering it down. He's going sideways round the corners.

Sato has crashed his car on his out lap. Nice one sato. No front wing on it.

Session red flagged.

Ralf looked very unwilling to drive that Toymota at any speed.
Alonso is certainly faster than most of the wet runners. hell..he's still on the track which is a start.

The cars look abysmal in the wet. Not just the lower cars - all of them. The look like they're handling like Mondeo's with crates under the rear wheels...

Yup.

Did I laugh when MS was sliding all over the place. Oh yes. :D Oh..he's the rainmaster.

Vielleneuve was just as bad - although he was on a damp track with slicks - but that is no excuse really.

Sato - D'oh!!! What more do I need to say...

Only couple of people I was impressed with this session:
Raikkonen - amazing car control.
Webber - Nailed it. Was lucky - but a fantastic showing for the first session.
Karthikeyan - First qualifying session - it was wet. kept it on the black and even out qualified championchip hopefuls.
Finally - Fisichella. Perfect timing. Fantastic lap, car looked well connected.

Just done a quick bit of guestimation - with the times posted yesterday - MS could be looking at...maybe..16th place... :D

Buggerritt - time for me to get 3 hours sleep before the missus wakes me up to go do something pointless in town.

The Toyota looks..difficult. I think It's really a lot slower than the positions indicate. It was on a damp track - on intermediates. If it had coninued to dry he probably would have ended up 10-12th.

The wet/dry/wet track has messed it up a lot. There's no real indication of the real speeds of the cars really.

We will get a better idea later today with the fuel load on board. We'll have a much better idea tomorrow - after the race. :D

Flibster, your F1 crazy man :p Great stats.

I watched it live too, as the comentators said, Macca looked absolutely pathetic out there and i really feel sorry for him. As for schuey, HAHA, proves even the pro's can screw up and that hes human just like everyone else. As for the new comers, i think they did a fantastic job for none of them to spin out. Looking forward to the race tonight now :) Gonna be watching it live

Heh...working in F1 in the past kinda gets it into your veins. :D

Finally got into bed a 4:40 this morning. Was up again at 8am.

Will be watching the race live and again commentating on it on here. I will be on the tired side I think...got a couple of things to watch on tv today to be totally braindead to *bond films. :D*. That'll help me conserve energy. :D

What did you used to do in f1 simon?

I did suspension.
Worked for a company that supplied at one point that I was there 6 teams in the pit lane with dampers, in some cases uprights and in a couple of cases a complete suspension package - dampers, uprights to the carbon wishbones and pushrods. Pretty much ready to be bolted to the car.

The dampers were my area though. Take a normal roadcar damper - strengthen it to take 10ton near instant loads, and shrink to 7" long. Oh..and increase the cost to around ~2.5 - 5k quid a corner.

I can say I have appeared on TV more than once...sadly virtually always covered in a full fireproof suit and crash helmet - either that or with my head stuck under the car or in the footwell.

Who says F1 is glamorous? :D

We also did custom systems for various teams. 1 team for a couple of years ran a shrunken version of our Rally car dampers. Did quite well - 2 world championships out of it.

We even developed a way around the Active Suspension rule. We could do it passively. Sold it to a team for a rather large amount of money *in excess of 1 million* they ran it at 1 test - 2 seconds a lap faster. Never ran it again. Apparently it was too heavy?? But they went 2 secs quicker?

We did everything from Formula Ford to F1, From GpN rallycars to Indycars to special jobs for the Royal Navy and one off car conversions for the Sultan of Brunei.

Also did vehicle dynamics and setup when at out home factory. Did some test driving of various new road cars. Some would turn blood red with embarassment or british racing green with sickness if it got out quite how much we did on their cars getting them to handle properly. ;)

Best bit was testing the cars though. Nothing like blasting 800 miles in 1 day in a brand new car - especially if it's before the press have driven it.

Worst bit - having bits fail at ~160mph and finding a concrete wall at the point of impact..
