but is it just 20" ones? if i got a 17" or a 24" would I not get the same problems?
 
Most if not all of the 20" widescreens have backlighting issues, I don't think the 24" versions suffer as badly but then they are considerably more expensive.

If it is genuinely a problem for you then I really wouldn't bother going for replacement after replacement trying to find one without the issue, I tried and gave up after the 3rd one. Under the distance selling regulations you have 7 days to return the goods to your supplier for a full refund.
