Now this doesn't seem right and I've not seen it on any other monitor.

I've had the chance to verify that the 'feature' exists on both an A03 and A04 monitor (the A03 has gone back to Dell for exchange because I thought it was faulty!). I've also tried it on a laptop via VGA to rule out my GFX card.

Here's the issue:

Fill the screen with a dark coloured page. OCuk forums are just fine and dandy. Note the colour of the taskbar and explorer bar.

Open another tab with a predominantly white webpage - BLANK untitled works fine.

The taskbar and explorer bar wash out completely to very light grey when you switch from OCuk to a white page. The grey level of the taskbar varies so that with a bright screen it is dark and with a dark screen it is light and to my eyes looks rubbish.

Yet my 'old' 2005WFP does not display this 'feature'. It means the grey colour levels vary depending on what is on the rest of the screen.

Can anybody explain this? Why should a 2005 panel not show it and multiple 2007 panels do? And if it's a feature designed to give us more contrast, is this really an improvement !?!

No problems with doing that on either of my A02 revisions. Make sure you have "desktop mode" selected under "Image modes" in the menu.

Ah, seems you have solved my problem. At some point they have been set to Gaming mode and that clearly has some sort of contrast boosting malarky going off.

Thanks.

Yeah gaming mode is horrible, and multimedia mode similar but less bad, but since desktop mode is perfect that doesn't matter at all :)
