I just received my Dell 2007wfp. The monitor has an orange tint or 'cast' - my question is, does anyone else with this monitor have this problem?

Yes, but only if I look at the screen from the side. I can't notice any orange tint when using the nonitor normally.

Yeah they all do it, it's possibly the only real drawback of an S-IPS panel. At wide viewing angles with black on the screen it all turns orangey. I never notice it during normal use either.

Or do you mean it has an orange cast all the time?

Yes it has the orange cast all the time. Even my skinned taskbar, which is meant to be dark grey, is quite orange now.

I have another problem; the sides of the screen have a kind of gradient - so for e.g. on a white background I can see it fading into grey on the sides.
Ok there is another issue :P I have some screen retention sometimes - will this become less frequent over time?

On a side note; I managed to use Adobe Gamma to adjust the colour to an acceptable standard - but the gamma is not used during games or video playback; is there a resolution to this?

That doesn't sound right at all, may be a faulty screen. Can you post some photos of the problems? You could also check the colour settings in the OSD to check the RGB balance is still at default settings.

Alright I have contacted Dell and they say 1 in 20 screens have this problem  And they will be changing it for a new one soon :)

Ok I got my replacement... but it's still orange. Even after spending a long time adjusting, I can't get a true grey (I'm comparing to my 1yr old Dell Ultrasharp 17"). I have a theory that the backlight is actually tinted orange

Honestly can't see any orange tint on mine. I also don't get retention/burn either, although I probably never have anything static on screen for more than about 4 hrs. There might be a hint of white going slightly grey towards the edges of the screen on mine but that's just a bit of uneven backlight.

No way you can post a photo of the orangeness? Is it strong enough to show up in a photo or is it something quite subtle?

I assume you're using DVI and have checked all the colour settings in windows (colour profile, video card settings etc). I notice from your sig you're a graphic designer, would you say you're very sensitive to the colour calibration being off?

You would think they would have some kind of quality control for that sort of thing.

I'm actually using VGA. Should I be using DVI?

Edit: Well I guess it could just be that my old monitor was tinted blue  I mean, even the post box around this form used to look grey on my old one - but as it turns out, the hex is a yellow colour, and it does appear yellow on this 2007wfp.

Btw, what brightness does everyone put their 2007wfp on? Also, why is there no contrast setting when using DVI?

That may well be it. Loads of monitors have a shocking push towards cool/blue colour as default and people get used to that. Look at grey/white objects in real life - there's a lot more red than blue to them in normal situations.

It really opened my eyes when I got a proper colour profile for my monitor :)

At least with DVI you can be sure the screen is getting the exact colour info outputted by the video card, since it's a digital signal. Plus there's no need for using auto-adjust when using DVI (in fact auto-adjust isn't even available when using DVI), the picture is always lined up perfectly with the screen edges.

Having said all that VGA doesn't necessarily look any worse. You can connect the screen via both VGA and DVI at the same time, set the PCs output to dual screens and switch between them using the OSD, and I couldn't see any difference. However I would still always use DVI.

I use mine on brightness 45-50. For the first few weeks I found it too bright on those settings but you soon get used to it.

Contrast is always unavailable when using DVI on all TFTs. Not 100% sure why, I think it's because it's supposed to be controlled via the PC, but there often isn't a way of actually doing that. Nevertheless though, the default contrast setting is fine.

I suspect the orangeness is just like you say, that you're used to your old screen. My 2007WFP has a noticeably different 'tint' to my previous Samsung 172T (in this case the Dell produces much better colours whereas white was off on the Samsung).
