2008 German GP - Race 10/18

Ah cool is that Shearwater or something?

I've had to record it and watch it later a few times in the past, which is ok as long as you drive back without the radio on and watch it right away :D

Chew Valley.

I am one of those people who wont be able to resist finding out the result before waiting to get home and watch a recording, I will either have to force myself not to go near anywhere that might tell me, or just make do with the highlights in the evening. Spose that means less Fathead and less Lewis love-in that way. :D

You can get portable radios with MW fairly cheaply, maybe you could find somewhere that is selling those nearby.
Good idea but I will barely have five minutes to scratch my arse tomorrow, looking after a disabled child, should have thought about this and planned it better really. Thanks though :)

What with the teams getting away with fuel at the wrong temperature in Brazil last year which [had they had penalties] would have given Mclaren the title. I guess they thought it might be pushing it a bit to take any action.

Heikki fined for refuel in Q2. Why would they fine Heikki and not the team? Seems a tad strange?

A statement read: "Car 23 was refuelled during Q2 using equipment that was not an FIA approved race refuelling system, and therefore the engine should have been stopped during the refuelling process."

Sounds like Heikki should've turned the engine off while refuelling, not that there's anything wrong with using a non-FIA approved refuelling system.

Makes me wonder the reasoning behind the rule.

If you are referring to Alonso, then Honda will need a top of the line driver, to take them to the next level. The problem is that Honda cant even make it into the "best of the rest" category (behind Ferrari/McLaren). They need to achieve that level, before bringing in a top driver, otherwise, it would be pointless. Once Honda are there, then Alonso will come in and should, within 2yrs be a title contender with Honda.

Remember F1 is about winning as well as being a business. The aim though, is to win, not to play happy families (unlike Ron Denis' strategy ;)).

It was the structure of Honda that was so shocking - with JB to get the most out of any car over a season, as he does in any fairly balanced team, with RB now effecting dev of 08 car but really only able to really get stuff going for 09 JB is going to be much better than any moaning spanish idiot

I personally think JB IS thattop driver and will be far more harmonic within the team than Alonso who wants everyone centred around him

I think Heikki was refueled using a handheld manual container instead of the usual automatic rig, I saw during quali that they refueled hime the same way as they do in Indycars and thought it was strange.

All the top drivers (MS, Alonso, Hamilton, Senna, Prost) want the team to be centred around them.

Button is what you call a journeyman who turns up, drives/test, etc, takes his money and goes home. He doesnt want to break records. If he can get a win, then great. He doesnt have the drive or determination to win a title. Button doesnt have the desire to win and we have seen this by the fact that he seems content to be in a team that is basically at the back of the grid. The likes of Alonso/Hamilton/Senna/Prost/MS wouldnt be content with this and would almost certainly move, however, we already know that Button doesnt want to push himself, so why would he drive alongside say, Kimi, Kubica, Hamilton, Alonso or any other top driver who will make him look ordinary?

You have to ask yourself, does Button really have the ability (in 2009/10), to go up against the likes of Hamilton (McLaren) or Alonso (Ferrari), as that is what he would have to do in order to win a title.

I know there are a lot of Button fans on this forum; and why not - its a British forum - but you have to be realistic. Honda (in their current configuration) are going nowhere fast. And Button is going nowhere fast. Honda's only chance is to get a top line driver (Hamilton or Alonso), who will drive the team forward and demand results.

For me Button isnt even in the top 8 drivers in F1, so I highly doubt that he will EVER win a F1 world title - I'd bet my life on it.

Button has been made to look a bit stupid recently. He said before Silverstone that "there was no possibility of scoring points" or something to that accord. Then guess what happened? His *team mate* came 3rd. Button had crashed out.

And now, not learning from his mistake, he has said the same about Germany. That he isn't expecting a good result. So what happens if his team mate gets "up there" again?

I agree with what you're saying, but imo Honda signing alonso, on a 1 year/30 million contract would be stupid, in a single year he's not going to provide enough to move them up the grid on a regular basis (look at renault this year, not exactly significantly better than last year, and that's a team he should've fit right back into).

On the other hand, in Button and Barichello, you've got 2 drivers with lots of experience, and with Ross Brawn around to kick people in to shape I think they've got the team in place to improve things so they're scoring points regularly and getting into the top 10 of qualifying on a regular basis (basically where Red Bull are now). Then they should try to get a top tier driver like raikkonen/hamilton/kubica/alonso, where they will be both vaquely interested in joining and actually be what's needed to make that last push to regular podiums/wins and then maybe a title...
