2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

This has been a good ashes match so far. Again Anderson when conditions are right he can bowl very well. Good use of Flintof. But beware the assuies coming back.

Assuming we get them out in the first hour or so I think we have to be aggressive and enforce the follow on given that we need to win the series. The bowlers should be reasonably fresh. Question marks over the weather also mean we need to try and take wickets while we can.

Strauss has shown himself to be quite conservative as a captain, my worry if we went in again would be that he'd bat on too long before declaring. Or worse, we could end up with the Aussies having a run chase if England don't perform with the bat given that we still have 3 days of play left.

Here's hoping for some overcast weather, without rain and I think we can turn them over pretty quickly in the first innings and have a decent enough chance of leaving us a small total to chase at the end.

Good performance so far.:)

Makes sense actually. It's not yesterday any more, and our luck with the ball seems to be disappearing. There's still pretty much three days left, so the game is very much up for grabs.

I can't help but think that not forcing the follow on is a mistake, knowing us we'll be all out for 150 and the Aussies will go on to win it. :D

Hopefully I'm wrong. :p

Look it at the other way though, the Aussies fight back and score 450 over the next day and a half and we suddenly need over 200 on a last day pitch, with England's capabilities that would be a nervous chase!

That is the attitude of a bunch of losers though really.

Good stuff from England so far but would have loved to have seen the Aussies go back in.

Why are captains so afraid to drop players that are playing poorly? Four years it was Gillespie, now Johnson.

Again a defeatist attitude, what makes you think they will be able to put up a sizeable lead? Surely they should back their own ability to get them out cheaply again. I bet if the shoe had been on the other foot the Aussies would have been a lot more inclined to stick England back in.

Gillespie was poor in the Ashes but had been doing fine up to that. Johnson is a bit hit and miss at times but the Aussies don't have much else in reserve these days

Conditions are good for batting so there was a good chance Australia would have put a good score on the board. We are taking advantage of that ourselves and we are still in charge.
