2009 Ashes Series - England vs. Australia **Spoilers**

Well Bopara and Cook have shown consistency today against Middlesex in division 2 of the county championship.

Bopara out for 1, Cook out for 4. Middlesex are second from bottom in the county championship.

Well i'd like to think getting 50 is no outstanding achievement for a number 3 - thats what they are meant to do. It was another of those innings where he wasn't under as much pressure. Any big occasion where the going is real tough then he is rubbish. Really think Key and Ramps should come in for him and Ravi. I think if either of them are in the team then the selectors are more or less throwing away any chances of a win.

You're right, Bell hasn't done enough. I can't see him dropped after the runs he's got today though

Bit harsh to say it was a pressureless game Bell was in.

a) he was batting for his England place. If he had failed it was likely he wasn't going to be picked

b) his team were following on and the first wicket fell early on. Yes Trott and Botha both scored runs but he anchored the team together.

Well it's about to start!

England Team:
Strauss, Cook, Bell, Colly, Trott, Prior, Flintoff, Broad, Swann, Harmison, Anderson

Australia Team:
1 Shane Watson, 2 Simon Katich, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Mike Hussey, 6 Marcus North, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Peter Siddle, 10 Stuart Clark, 11 Ben Hilfenhaus

England win the toss and bat first :)

Here's a pretty amazing stat. Well I think so anyway.

Batting from 4 downwards, Bell averages 46.93.

46.93! He's played 32/49 of his games batting outside of 3, I have to wonder would his career have been quite different had he played his cricket in an England team who had a dependable no. 3 in the side throughout?

but having said all that, the way he's playing Johnson's short ball, it wouldn't matter where he bats.

When he fended off two short deliveries which he had no clue about. The ball could have very easily gone to a fielder.

If Ponting had a leg slip in Bell would have been caught.

Just my pessemistic view of Bells batting so far really.

oh right - thought you meant when he sort-of-maybe got a bit of his glove on that one to siddle!

Probably because Johnson is again spraying the ball all over the place...im surprised they left out Lee...would have thought he was a shoe in seeing as he was more or less fit or have i missed something...seems like they have gone with the same team from the last test.

Just hope that it doesnt backfire in their faces....they need to get Sherminator aka Bell out:p.

Looking at it, I think they're going to regret not playing both Hauritz and Lee, although I still don't know who they would have dropped!

I'm actually thinking we should have played Monty instead of Harmison!

4 for 181.

:)

You mean 181 for 4 :p

I was just thinking if Siddle keeps persisting with this line Prior's going to play on.

And he nearly did.

Oops :(

Would have been a very good time for Bell to make a stand, but from what I hear he's been his usual flaky self.

Prior and Trott in now, and they wanted to relieve the pressure from Trott. Less than 200 and he's one batsman left behind him :/

Bell had a terrible start and Johnson was all over him, but after that he looked fine till his dismissal.
