So is it coming out on the 18th Oct?

It's just that I have taken delivery of a couple of storage servers for using dedupe for veeam, so I might wait for R2 if its just a week or two away.

Are you expecting better than veeam dedupe (if your jobs are bitty) or are you deduping the deduped backups?

If your veeam backups are big then I hope your servers have ridiculous CPU power to run the dedupe...

It's all a bit experimental at the moment, plan is deduping the veeam dedupes - Long term retention on a separate repository. Plus dedupes of the offsite backups.

2 servers at each site, Server1 holds 4 weeks, server2 holds copy jobs of server1 with extended retention + offsites from alternative server1.

I've heard that with R2 they have improved the 100GB per/hr rate.

Servers are Dell R720XD with 24 cores and 24GB RAM, 33TB RAID6.

I have just copied 15TB of backups onto the server to see what kind of ratio it'll get, and it'll take about 5 days to dedupe as its only running on 1 core.

(back to subject, any idea on the release date??)

Yeah, definitely the 18th. It's actually already available from Technet and MSDN, but retail (and Volume Licensing for some reason) will be the 18th.

Yeah normally volume licensing customers get it earlier too, we did with Win8 etc. Maybe I can find someone with a technet account here so I can at least make a start.

cheers
