2012 Log and some info about me here

As Will said, smash the **** out of 2013!!

Only 1 comp entered so far for this year (England's Most Powerful Man - Novice), though that is more because most haven't been announced yet, don't want to do more than 3 really.

We have put up a local stone comp, which will be first weekend in March I think, a few of the local (ish) strongmen that we know are coming for a day with our stones. PBs will be set while covered in tacky and sweat, skin will rip, blood will drip and then we will all go to the pub for food.
I want to load our 160kg stone to 48" this day, that will be awesome as it's my goal by summer, so it would be great to get it before!

EMP - Novice Events: (targets below each)
Event one : 100kg log for reps 60 secs (floor to overhead each rep)
Expecting 8+ reps
Event two : 100kg farmers 20 metres 60 secs
Depends on condition of the grass/mud. Want 10 secs.
Event three : Oly bar deadlift 220kg for reps 60 secs
12 reps as a minimum
Event four : Super Yoke 260kg 20 metres 60 secs
Yoke isn't my most liked event, 15 secs
Event Five : Arm over Arm 4x4 Mazda 20 metres 60 secs
A good rope and I'll have this pretty quick. 20 secs

5 mins is the most I will be competing in total all day. A lot of hard work needed for such a little time lol

No events yesterday, seemed to be ******** for fun and as we have no toilet couldn't be assed trying to not **** all day lol.

Axle overhead session:
Warm ups: 25kg plate press over head x 10 / tri extension x 10: 2 times
Strict press:

First time using the bands, easy off shoulder but kick in well for triceps which is perfect. Liked them :)


Good first overhead session of the year, good starting point :)

Ok so 2nd day of pressing in a row: was not looking forward to this!!

Warm up
Empty log (70kg) x 5 strict

Empty log plus red bands (apparently 20kg each at top of press):
Wow, going from 70kg to 110kg in a pretty short ROM is hard!!

x5 - smashed these out, **** yeah was happy with how easy these went!

x1 - bloody hard, tris dieing after 2 sessions in 24 hours. Boom :D

Incline log bench:
We were all feeling the pain, so this was going to be hard:

130xf - moved about 3" above chest and stayed there. Battled for about 5 secs then gave up lol.

When we got to empty log we all struggled to get more than 4. So funny to struggle on something so light :D

Tri's and shoulders = blasted. Very hungry today!
 
10th Jan - Speed Squats

If one will squat, one will suffer doms.

Squats last night, 5x5, increasing weight each set, fast. Hit depth, smash it up go again. No stopping..

Warm ups then

Faster means dropping some weight, so start with.... nice and easy...
110x5 - fast. like it. easy
130x5 - fast, like it, easy
150x5 - fast, like it, not so easy
add belt
160x5 - fast, no like it, struggling to breathe after, red faced, find a chair
170x5 - first 3 were pretty fast tbh, then i should have given up as the next 2 were grinders rather than speedy lol

death set
120 on the bar, rep till you think you might fail, stop and 20kg gets taken off. Keep going down to 60kg. If you fail you stop, you lose out..:

80x5, 20kg off
60x3 - dieing. Didn't want to try a 4th

Nice fast night, good depth and speed. Will start on 120kg next time and go up to 180.
 
No events over the weekend, feeling like complete crap and know that a hard events session would kill me.

Still gonna head up the gym later for log and some strict axle with bands.

Today is Week 1 of ortmeyer overhead. I'm crazily basing my projected 1rm as 130kg. My current PB for lig is 112.5kg. Yep, thats a big jump but I'm being told that I just need to involve my legs more and the weight will fly up.... so we will see.

Week 1 Ortmeyer Log:
4x4 70% - 90kg
2x2 80% - 102.5kg
rep out at 70% (90kg), must get at least 8 reps to go on to week 2.

Even though I'm feeling like crap week 1 should be easy.

Week 2 on the over hand will have me doing a 5kg PB for 2. I have no issue with pressing it out once it gets over my head, that bit is not too bad. It's the push press to get it to a point that my tri's can take over!

Might need to reassess that in a few weeks if I fail week 2 a few times. I think that 125 would be a better target but I'm being told no :D

strict axle with bands. Depends how I feel, might just go light and smash the reps out rather than dropping under 3 reps. Or I might just do 5x3 and go heavy. Hmm.
 
Well, week 1 ortmayer log = fail.
Guess I neglected to think just how bad I would be after a few sets.

Working log sets:
90x4x4 - felt like complete crap after second set, none of these had any speed.
105x2 - slow and horrible, legs didn't want to help so almost strictest these :(
105x1 and 1 fail. - ****.
Should have left it alone but decided to take 5kg off and take a breath.
100x3 - actually pretty easy, wtf?
90x8 - had to put log down after 6 as couldn't breathe. Took a few secs, and got the last 2.

Strict log to finish:
70x8
70x6

Finished.
Crap. Not happy with myself at all, though being ill and the unit being 2oC wasn't helping me.
Going to smash 105 2x2 next week and get 10 reps of 90 on final set to make up for it!
