2014 Chilli Growers Thread

So i had an Apache kit for xmas from south devon chili farm. Planted it xmas evening haha. As soon as it started to grow half decent, I kind of got into it and got a load of different chili going.
Habenero
Scotch Bonnet
Jalapeno
Cayenne
Super Chili
Praire Fire

Looks really healthy

Never grown anything before so been googling loads. It started budding about 2-3 weeks ago and pinched the first say 5 off. Theres a load more buds forming now should I just leave it now (thats what im thinking)

Looks really healthy and is a good size for the age. I have never grown this type before but I would probably keep de-budding for a week or 2, unless you are aiming for a shorter plant.

Well the new scotch bonnet seeds i had delivered on saturday and put straight to work, have started to germinate after 2 days.

Sadly as you suspected herman the old seeds were too old and looked to be dead. The Aji's though, allbeit slow i currently have 6/10 germinated and have hopes for the last 4

I'm putting mine outside in the greenhouse if it's going to be this warm in the day for a while. Will bring them back in at night though.

Ah that's not bad. Thanks for the link, I'll have a snoop around tonight. Do you have to rest daily to get a new high and low or is it a continuous update?

itll just display the highest and lowest over a period until you reset it. i check and reset it every other day at the moment.

It's not too bad out there at the moment, since Sunday..

Low 8.5c
High 38c

And extremely humid. Need to figure out a way to regulate that and the high temp.

This is the digital thermomemter I have:

That's about £10 more than I'd want to spend but thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll get a cheap one as I'm not as serious as a lot on here.

Threads gone a bit quiet so have some more photos of mine :D

Ajis are still storming on

The choc bhut has had a little spurt sideways but the goronong is still pretty small. Hoping once the weather improves and the go in the greenhouse they'll pick up.

Hi, the plants look very healthy to me. In my experience the Annuums (your Romano) tend to grow quickest, followed by the Baccatums (your Aji Limon), then the really slow Chinense (your Choc Bhut Jolokia and Goronong).

I really like the way that different chillies all have their own characters and features. If you watch the way they grow seed leaves (dicotyledon) and plant structures, then fruit buds and flowers, you can usually hazard a guess as to what type it is (Annuum, Baccatum or Chinense). The Goronong was a bit of a risky ID but I can tell from both yours and mine that it is 100% certain to be a Chinense family. The reason I keep saying that people should germinate Chinense early (December for some) is that they do take forever to grow and then the fruit generally takes longer to ripen too, but the rewards are obvious when you eat one!! I have never grown a Goronong to beyond seedling and I am really excited about what is to come, if it is the freaky yellow blobby things which tastes a bit like habanero/bonnet I will be so happy. I want weird as possible with that one :)
