2014 Chilli Growers Thread

Threads gone a bit quiet so have some more photos of mine :D

Not much is happening. I still have 5plants that are reasonably healthy from last year, so they're fully grown and waiting for some proper sun shine.
A 6th is very unhealthy and may well be dead.

I repotted 3 of mine way too early, ok there was a root poking out the bottom but they hadn't even wrapped around the 3 inch pot so when i tipped it out all the soil fell away.

Hi, the plants look very healthy to me. In my experience the Annuums (your Romano) tend to grow quickest, followed by the Baccatums (your Aji Limon), then the really slow Chinense (your Choc Bhut Jolokia and Goronong).

yeah the first romano i pruned has litterally exploded with new growth.

thats reassuring about the chinense. they do seem to have substantial roots, they are extending slightly from the base of the 7cm pots.

My Annuums (New Mexico, Jalapeno & Cayenne) are all doing very well. Big healthy plants and all starting to produce flower buds.

My Chinense (Naga Bhut Jolokia, Scotch Bonnet & Hotscotch) are a bit shorter but with big, healthy leaves. One of the Nagas and one of the Scotch Bonnets seem to be just starting to sprout flower buds. Not sure whether to nip them off or leave them. Seems a bit early for them (plants are only 6"-7" tall).

Here's one of the Nagas with a DVD for a size comparison - massive leaves:

This is one of the New Mexicos. plant is about 10" tall:

Finally, flower buds on one of the Cayennes:

Stan, your fingers must be bright green. Really healthy big lush leaves.

I had a surprise delivery this morning (as I must have ordered when drunk!) from US of A:

Dried superhots and some more seeds!!! Chillies are Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion and my thinking (now I recall!) was to use the chillies and test the seeds they contain for viability, as they don't always work after the drying process.

So far aside from being massively behind everyone 10/11 Aji seeds have germinated and half of those are potted seedlings and the younger half are potted up too now in a slightly sandy compost from the pile in the garden i started last summer. It drains quite well while keeping moist eather easily if that makes sense.

The only one of the new batch of scotch bonnet seeds (the one that started to germinate in just ,2 days) is potted and im eagerly waiting to see what happens to it or if any of the other nine scotch bonnet seeds will pop

little yella fella :) (will it always be yellow?)

I should point out 2 important factors:

1. The seedling is under artificial light and therefore colour balance is way off.
2. I am colour blind (aka colour stupid), so manually attempting to cure item 1 in LR is hard.

Really not sure :D

I know the dicotyledon is not green IRL.

haha :D

I'll say one thing for my cheapo greenhouse, it's consistent with temps..

Since last check:

High - 35c
Low - 8c

Still dripping on the inside though, need to get some airflow.

I will get some more pics up over the weekend, I've been swapping some of the stronger plants from under the lights for some on the windowsill to give them all a boost. They are still all short but have some crazy huge leaves.
One of my sweet peppers (banana, actually started sprouting buds and its only like 4 inches tall, I picked them off to keep it growing though, far too early).

I also have one plant that I overwintered, just a basket of fire, I will post some pics up for that too, its completely covered in flowers and chillies already, in fact I've had ripe chillies off of it already this week :o

Okay so cold rainy Saturdays are dangerous. Just potted up the ajis and I have a load of spare pots and my brain is saying "you could get some more plants going.. hell, the weather will get better soon. The plants can go outdoors.. the OH can't moan about that.."

So I just bought some seeds from the South Devon Chilli Farm..

Hungarian Wax Chilli Seeds
Ring of Fire Chilli Seeds
Bulgarian Carrot Chilli Seeds

And I'm a little nervous as these will be my first Chillis from seed (my original plants turned out to be easy peppers and the others given to me in seedling form).

Bit late to the game here but I ordered some chilli plugs and they arrived last week so I potted them up;

Keeping some inside and some in a greenhouse outside, for science! and also lack of space on the window sill :)

One of my plants has flopped over, it hasn't shrivelled up and it's still in the first pot, it's almost like the stem cannot support the weight or something, really odd as it's not much bigger than any others.

Temperature okay ?

My aji went a bit saggy yesterday where I took it just outside the back door to pour some perlite. Perked up again when warm.

Presume so Neil, no other plants showing any signs and conditions haven't changed. Only thing I can think is a lot of water dropped on to the leaves as I forgot to open the vents on my propagator and maybe it got too wet. I'll keep an eye over the next few days.
