2014 Chilli Growers Thread

just as they started to stock square pots..

i see they were selling off all of the plastic greenhouses the other day.

I got these, well actually I got the 6litre ones to start with and felt they weren't big enough.

https://www.hydroculture.co.uk/11-litre-pots?search_query=square

Shipping seems to be 5.99 pretty much regardless of what you order, so I got the plant magic soil + as well. All though 100litres soil only filled 6 pots :(

However they seem to have picked up bugs, lots of tiny fluffy looking things, anyone know what it is and how to get rid.

Looks like whitefly :(, will have to get some chemicals :(

My huge bottle of chilli focus arrived today so i can finally feed my plants lol haven't fed them in ages, just watered!

A sin i know :(

I ran out a while ago myself, I've just been using extra diluted tomato feed, seems to work fine. On another note I've had to throw away so many peppers and chillies due to something chewing perfectly round holes in them :/

SLUGS! FREAKING SLUGS!

I'm battling them eating my bell peppers, which was potted and planted outdoor. My 2 chilli plants indoor are doing fine.

I've got my chilli plants on top of the garden table, and I've covered the soil in perlite to make it look like a giant litter tray. I think the table more than the perlite is helping but either way I've been lucky so far (unlike my other plants at ground level...) :)

I counted last night and I have 20 chillies in various stages of development between my two purple jalepenos. The orange habs have flowers but no fruit yet.

I'd pretty much given up on my chillies after I moved them outside and the entire slug population of N. Ireland descended onto them. But after a quick look 3 of the 5 plants seem to have pulled through the slugocalypse and I've a few flowers and about 3 chillies. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out now.

I do recommend the slug pellet + perlite route. I have cats so I was extremely careful about how I set it all up. It seems to have worked so far (and my cats are fine) :)

weird, worked great for me. it does need to be the 1" thick stuff though. also make sure that the slugs cant bridge across onto the plant from nearby walls, other plants etc.

ive got more of an ant problem at the moment. damn things are all over my plants.

Yeah. I've heard of other people having success which is why I was shocked when it didn't work at all for me :/ I literally double-taped (so it ended up being almost 2 inches thick) it and ensured that there were no bridges. Still a giant slug orgy in my pots every morning when I checked.

I have never fed my chilli plants in maybe the 5 or 6 years of growing them. I always end up with far too large crop, so I have never bothered. Greenhouse is a jungle, there must be several hundred Pimento peppers in there this year.

Ants seem a little more under control this evening.

Anyway fruit ahoy..

Ajis, loads unripe. Spotted one with a yellow tip earlier..
