2014 in NASCAR

Kyle Larson won the Nationwide race by the way, not a bad finish either.

Cup is still only on lap 129. A lot of cautions for cars having tyre problems... wonder if it's the ride height and the old track surface causing them?

Tyre issues in the practice sessions, tyre issues in the race. Normally NASCAR would have taken action pre-race, but maybe they figured it was the only way to liven up a race at Fontana....

NASCAR.com reckons it was a "thrilling" race. As for me, I could barely contain my indifference. If I want to watch a racing series with tyre issues on a dull track I'll watch a tape of the 2013 British Grand Prix.

Eh, I wouldn't be so quick to pin the blame on Goodyear. There were a rash of tyre blow-outs at Phoenix last year that turned out to be related to car set-ups. Were the teams running low pressures and too much camber? The track surface at Auto Club is garbage as well (it played a large part in the high attrition of the Indycar finale last year).

Oh, I wasn't blaming Goodyear particularly. While they have screwed the pooch on tyres before, this didn't seem to be all on them. Teams will keep pushing the envelope on setuo ;)

But anyway, it provided a talking point about a race that traditionally throws up precious few.

Fair enough, I've seen a lot of comments on the web about it from F1 fans who think it's another Pirelli-type situation. Got to love the ignorance on display :p
