2015 Chilli Growers Thread

WhnteJg.webp

This is one of the filius blue seedlings in the propagator, about a couple of inches high. Does it need repotting now? I've got some 8cm pots.

I'd give it at least another week, probably longer. Id normally repot after I've deemed that the first set of main leaves have become well established.

Mine are at the stage now where they could do with potting up, but if I do there will be no room for them. I need bigger window sills!

Still a chance for frost up here, so I think I'll wait a bit longer then stick some in the greenhouse.

I have just received an order from Espana, from a German grower with a large collection of well priced seeds. The seeds are mostly for next year, but I might try and gamble with a couple this season (see stars)....

Rocoto Aji Largo *
Rocoto Guatemalan Orange *
Santa Lucia Island
Jamaican Scotch Bonnet TFM *
Habanero Neon Yellow
Habanero Hot Lemon
Orange Lantern PI 315028
Trinidad Scorpion Orange
Habanero Orange Devil
7pot Primo Orange *
Fatalii Red
Navajo / Navaho (freebie)
San Marzano Nano (tomato)
Federle (tomato)

Each packet contains about 10 seeds and they're all 1.50 euro per packet, and I didn't pay additional P&P. They took a few days to arrive from Spain. The website is multi language, although not all descriptions are complete yet. A very large selection and good price.

That seems a great deal! I'll save that site for next year.

These are some of my chilli plants, have another 4 on a smaller window sill. Would it be time to pot these up yet? The roots are starting to appear at the drainage holes, but wondering if it would be ok to leave them for a bit or better to get them potted up?

I'm running out of space so hoping I can hold off for a bit and just pot 1 variety of each up for now, then pot the rest up once they can safely go outside into the greenhouse.

I am pleased I found the site, as I am always looking for new strains, as I am a bit of a seed-saver (in case of Zombie apocalypse etc.) and I have a lot in a cold box.

Your plants are doing really well and looking healthy. You will have no problem waiting if you want, as peppers don't mind small pots for a while.

It depends how big you want them to get IMO ... leaving them with bound roots will stunt them, which is not necessarily a bad thing unless you want massive plants.

I was given a cute little scotch bonnet plant at the weekend, it's only about 3 inches tall at the moment but has a decent set of leaves on it. (i'll add a picture this evening if I remember)

However it's be a good 3 years or so since I grew any chillies and never any scotch bonnets so a few tip and reminders and any special treatment needed for scotch bonnets would be much appreciated.

Just thought I would add my minor chilli growing effort to the thread!

Being my first time I thought I would start easy and try some Apache F1's, got 5 plants on the go at the moment - took their time initially but they have absolutely exploded in the last couple of weeks, the bigger ones have got some little flower buds appearing at the top :D

Been quite lucky up here the last few weeks with the weather, this week hasn't been so nice but still getting sunny spells - the chillis are lapping it up.

Just repotted them last night, what an amount of roots they have, they were up against the sides of the pots and nearly coming out the bottom too.

Completely forgot about planting chillies, not sure where my head was at...

Finally planted the seeds Herman Gelmet sent over in the Aerogarden today. Way way late, but it'll all work out...
Will update once I see shoots!

Have got some bell peppers growing in the office, they were in my flat for a while but there just wasn't enough sunlight, so back to the office. Coming along nicely!

Last year I just threw a bunch of jalapeno seeds in a plant pot on the windowsill and they all grew. This year I did some reading and tried to do it properly with a propagator and nice selection of seeds. Out of the 20 I planted only 3 have come through and one of them has died off after I left the window open on a cold night :(

Better luck next year hopefully!
