Is there any info on the new car launches for 2015? With Honda back on board with Mclaren be interesting what the livery will be? (Red and white Malboro colours anyone?)
Also sorry if I've stepped on anyones toes here...

I think you have just voulenteered to own this thread and keep the OP updated with dates :)

Thanks!

So far I think we have Force India 21st, Williams 22nd, McLaren 29th and Ferrari 30th.

they pop up automatically on my f1 android calendar. dunno who maintains it but its really useful
been going for years with it now

McLaren MP4-30 - 29 January
Ferrari (unnamed) - 30 January
Force India VJM08 - 21 January

I hadn't seen confirmation of Williams FW37 yet.

Honda had nothing to do with McLaren's red and white livery, which started well before their association with Honda and ended years after Honda stopped supplying them with engines.

Even if it was white and red (as a nod to Honda), but it's not going to be anything like the old Marlboro-style livery. Even Ferrari were forced to stop using decals which might suggest they were Marlboro related, historic or otherwise, so it's certainly going to happen with McLaren.

I wonder what the legal position would be for a Mclaren orange + Honda white livery laid out like the Marlboro Mclaren livery would be?
Surely Marlboro don't own the rights to the way the red was laid out on the car, only the colours?

I would have thought it would be the opposite! Surely no one can OWN colours? Though I suspect they would have the rights to the way it was laid out (ie the triangular cut out/arrow tip shape into the orange)

The trouble with white and orange is that they may look too similar to the Force Indias (depending on how much green the Force India goes with next year)

I don't think it's got anything to do with Marlboro (I wouldn't be surprised to be happy about potentially free sponsorship!), but the tobacco advertising laws in each country. It is a Marlboro livery rather than a McLaren one - Alfa Romeo a near identical Marlboro livery on their cars at the same time as McLaren (and Penske in Indycar), as well as similar liveries on previous cars (BRM come to mind).

Indeed - I don't know why people keep bringing up this McLaren red and white thing - it's a Marlboro livery owing to their sponsorship by them (admittedly for a very long time - over 20 years) It's got nothing to do with Honda either, McLaren used the same livery when they had TAG, Porsche, Mercedes, Peugeot and Ford engines

I thought Honda were red white?

The Japanese flag.
The badge
A general theme in f1

Could easily be coincidence.

Throughout recent history how many cars are liveried after a works engine supplier though? I can't immediately think of any.

McLaren has had a silver-based theme during their Mercedes years, but they also had the Marlboro livery for the first two of those years. As far as I'm aware the current chrome livery is just an evolution of the old West livery. They may well be moving away from the chrome to distance themselves from the Mercedes days, but I don't think it was ever anything more than a coincidence or perhaps a symbolic nod once the West deal ended. I read that Mercedes themselves are expected to move to a more chrome look next year, which is perhaps the biggest clue that McLaren will change.

If they've no title sponsor then I guess it's likely to be white and red as a pointer towards Honda, but that may well change if a title sponsor is found.

Will Force India be on the grid given VJ Mallya's financial strife?

Given that VJ has essentially been given a travel ban for the financial mess he's in at the moment. In order to leave the country he has to give the authorities a detailed itinerary. The taxman is after him. Bank of India are after him. Kingfisher airline is stuffed.

F1 isn't the biggest concern of his at the moment really.

When McLaren 1st did the silver (recently) everyone was going on about "Silver Arrows".......which of course then got repeated as soon as Merc appeared.
