2016 - The year of 21:9? Questions below.

I so want one of these screens replace my 2x27" screens as it'd pain using 2 screens from a purl gaming stand point

Good luck man :)

I recently got a 21:9 (although a lowly 2560*1080 flavour) and love it. There's now way I could go back to 16:9. This is coming from a 27"1440p

Really ? I am on 1080p and thinking about 1440p but the ultra wide monitors look good, I play mainly FPS and I am concerned it would take my brain a while to adjust....

There was zero adjustment time for me. Everything is just better. Doom looks and runs amazingly. Same with Alien Isolation and Source games. The only thing I've tried that doesn't work in 21:9 is Overwatch - so that's like playing on a 27" 1080p monitor. I thought that would be annoying btw, but honestly don't notice the borders while playing. For me there is no competition at all vs. a 27" 1440p. The ultrawide comfortably edges it in desktop use, even with a lesser dpi, and absolutely slays it in games (as long as you're ok with 75hz). But tastes vary of course and some people like a higher dpi. Games also run noticeably better than on the 1440p. Infact, with my 390x, I've spent far more time trying to cap games from going above 75fps than I have getting them to work in 21:9! Super chuffed with it.

is there a 1080p 120hz ? I got 60 hz monitors at work and I get headaches, I've got 144 at home and thats perfect. My eyes got used to the 144hz gloriouse PC mustard race

You need a new desk lol! ;)

The x34 does indeed require a large surface. It's front legs have to overhang my bass combo I use as a bedside table (compact situation) and in my first few days of owning it I headbutted the screen no less than 4 times as it toppled forward. Thankfully no harm has been done to it other than some greasy patches I must get round to cleaning.

can u explain why its not like playing on a 1440p 27'' monitor ?

Other than the Acer 35" screens (that apparently have motion issues) I don't think so. It would be nice - especially as 120hz at that resolution isn't unfeasible. For what it's worth, the monitor I came from was 144hz and, while nice, I don't particularly miss it. Then again I wasn't close to maintaining that fps in most games and didn't feel the full benefit.

I think having your peripheral vision taken up by the screen absorbs you more in the game. Alien Isolation is a good example, but there's also games I didn't expect to shine in 21:9 at all and totally do. Ori and the Blind forest and Salt and Sanctuary are good examples of this. Especially Ori - it looks stunning in 21:9. That's pretty much it - it feels more like you're in the game. That and it's just cool seeing more stuff going on. More demons throwing fireballs at you in Doom :)

Sorry I lazily wrote my last message so unclearly!!

No, what i mean is... You said overwatch at 16:10 is 1080p. Why isn't it 16:10 1440p?

I can see from a simple youtube 21:9 video of a game like Tomb Raider that 21:9 is something SPECIAL! :) I'm jealous!

Funny thing is my monitor was delivered whilst my other half was out.

Bearing in mind the PC is in the lounge and she has since used it, she hasn't even noticed the change of screen.

That's £900 (of my money) she doesn't really need to know about :)
