With the squad announcement imminent (and plenty of dodgy rumours circling) I thought time to kick off a Lions thread.

Looks like Warburton has just been confirmed as captain.

Thanks for that captain cheerful, maybe start your own moaners thread instead? :p

While the 1997 tour hasn't really been eclipsed since, I thought 2009 was a fantastic tour and I really enjoyed the last one too. It's not too hard to look past the media guff you mention, sort of cutting off your nose to spite your face by letting that put you off, no?

Well I'm not so sure Participant. I don't like the idea of token players to appease one nation in particular, or even think that coaches should worry tooo much about the blend within the team.

But a team of 15 Englishmen or 15 Welshmen (etc.) just would not be the Lions. Yes the Lions play to win, and the matches are professionally competitive, but at the same time, the Lions is undeniably about the power of the 4 home nations together.

I actually fancy the Lions, the ABs aren't at full strength, and they've not been under pressure like this for years and years. Now that it's just a one off win needed, I really do think we can do it.

Agreed washout, it's classified as offside, for which the sanction is a penalty, but there does exist 'accidental offside', such as non-deliberate crossing, which I think this case is very similar to.

OK but it's a marginal thing, and something that although maybe not to the letter of the law, is generally accepted as being OK. So IMO not worth making the mountain out of a molehill that you are. Plenty of other decisions e.g. Warburton not getting done for swinging arm on Retallick, mean that as Lions supporters we have no reason to feel hard done by due to ref decisions.
