Christmas is coming and that can only mean one thing..

The darts is back! This year we say farewell to Phil Taylor after 25 years of the PDC and an incredible 16 world titles to his name. There are a few strong contenders in the PDC this year!

I think Rob Cross has a genuine shot at the title. He's been the best floor player by a long way over the last 12 months, has turned that into success on stage by getting to numerous semis and finals, but of course he has to get past a certain Michael Van Gerwen first.

I've not seen anyone's odds this short to win the title since Taylor's dominance. MVG is 4/6 to win the whole thing, Gary Anderson is 7/1, Peter Wright (he may not play though) 10/1, Phil Taylor 12/1, Rob Cross 14/1 and the rest may as well not bother.

On the BDO side, I can't see anyone other than Glen Durrant winning. He's a class act and put on a real show in the grand slam against Wright despite losing 16-12. He's rightly the 6/4 favourite.

Fellow darts nut signing in.

I know it's boring but I cant see past MVG. Rob Cross is a great player and pushes MVG, but hasn't quite had it so far to get over the line against him. Too prone to a few bad legs which cost him. Anderson is obviously a major player but there's been trouble with his childs health and his head hasn't been in the game of late. If he's not at peace and prepared, I can't see him winning this year.

Aidy Lewis has had a bit of a resurgence of late and is playing some good stuff. he's a twice world champ so has the backbone for it. I think 33/1 is a great value price with a view to lay off later in the tournament.

It's Taylor's swansong and no-one is expecting him to win. I expect him to exit in the quarter finals, probably to Gary Anderson if Gary is on his game and the draw pans out to the odds. If there's one player I'd love to hit a 9 darter this year though, it's Phil. What a way to bow out.

Some players I’m looking forward to seeing their performance are Daryl Gurney, Mensur Suljovic and Simon Whitlock, another player on a bit of a resurgence.

Just hope we have a good tournament. Good darts and a nice of bit of crowd banter. Bring it on! Merry Christmas!

As for the BDO version, pfft, I can't be bothered to even write about it tbh. It's just bobbins compared to the PDC. One thing though, Durrant is by far the best player, but I have a feeling he won't win it this year. Reason being is that he really wants to switch next year and players who make the finals or better lose their prize money if they switch within a year. The only reason he will want to defend is for the glory, but I think he will have one eye on the Q school to earn his tour card, that is unless he's been offered a card. They sometimes award them to players of outstanding ability.

MVG had a dip in the middle of the year when he had some back trouble but since the Autumn he has been unbeatable.

The set play format does slightly open it up to the others as you can still come back from a bad set or 2 unlike in legs where if you're 5 or 6 legs behind against him it's curtains.

Realistically I can't see anyone beating him but I'm really interested to see how Rob Cross does here, genuinely the best breakout talent I've seen in the PDC probably ever.

Love Christmas and love the darts :D I'm still waiting for MvG to hit back to back 9 darters after coming so close a couple of years ago.

I love watching the darts but it’s so annoying how much of a hard on the commentators have for Phil Taylor.

Can't stand the man. They had an hour long piece on him on Friday, he said 'people compare me to Tiger Woods, Ronne O'Sullivan, Roger Federer.. I tell them to get stuffed, I've won 10 times more than that lot put together'.

Such an arrogant ******. Yes Phil, you won a lot, but the whole 'PDC wouldn't be anything with me' nonsense really gets on my nerves. I really hope someone absolutely thrashes him.

For someone who have no idea about darts more than I know you have to go downwards from 501 to win a leg (and finish with a double score), what is the difference between PDC and BDO?
