2023-24 Season - Your Thoughts

I think predicting next season is pretty tricky for most clubs at the moment. City will obviously be strong, but Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd, Newcastle and even Chelsea will all depend heavily on how their summer business goes, and that largely remains to be seen. They're all teams which are midway through projects of some sort, and which of those teams continues those projects best in the summer will dictate to a large extent which ones have a good next season.

As a Liverpool fan I'm cautiously optimistic. We finished the season really strongly, our players look confident again, Salah is still a machine, we're offloading a fair bit of deadwood, and we've already done good business in Macallister, so I'd expect top 4.

That said, we still need signings, and teams will work out how to address our new system over the course of the first half of next season, so the question is how it will hold up to those challenges. Also, if Arsenal, Newcastle, and United all have better summers than us then we may well miss out on top 4 again.

Basically, I've no idea how next season will look...

I guess everyone took "your thoughts" is on something that HAPPENED in the past, rather than "your PREDICTION" on something that is going to happen in the future, which is the better, more appropriate, more fitting word to use.

What's your thought on the Marvel movie coming out next summer? for example.
Thats the difference between only reading the title and reading the content of the post :)

I hope we will do ok in champs league, you never know depends on the draw. Same as domestic cups.

Unless we make some really key signings our squad won't be able to fend for itself on all fronts and our league position will suffer. However I'm honestly expecting us to be behind in the transfer market and next season finish Europa league. Expect city/arsenal/United and Liverpool(if the midfield is strengthened further) to be top 4. It's going to take another incredible effort to break the top 4.

We overachieved last year and think we've got a long way to go next season to even come close, the bigger clubs will be just as strong if not stronger.

Not even the title unless he doesn't know what year it is :p

As I said, when the mind (not just mine, but a few others), sees the "thought", we think of the past, what happened in the past, everything else just goes out the window. I guess, in a way, I thought he made a mistake on the year, but not the application of the word.

And yes, I didn't read the post, just the title lol

And as I said, since it happened to a few people, it clearly illustrates there is truth to it. Not even denying that it didn't happen, just explaining what happened.

p.s. I am not sure what you meant by "doubling down" though, I never deny it didn't happen, do you want me to deny it didn't happen?

You admitted no fault on your part and blamed Tombstone for their post (that you didn't read). That is doubling down.

I admit my reading of the title, “thought” is thinking in Past tense, and applied it as the seasons that passed….

That’s a valid reading of the situation, I also admit I gloss over the year completely.

It’s the truth of my thought process when I read it. Do you call that doubling down? I still read it as past tense…as the word is a past tense…instead of asking “what do you think will happen in 23/24 season”

I just think it’s a bad turn if phrase if you ask me, you don’t often get to ask about your thoughts on things that hasn’t happened yet. What’s your thought on the next Prime minister? What’s your thought on the next Christmas? What’s your thought on your next job? To me, it seems a badly phrase word…if you say I am doubling down as that as bad English, yes I am :D lol digging in now!

And it has been shown it is a bad turn of phrase by the number of people reading it the same way I did. Lol I mean….did I read it wrong? Yes, can you blame me and everyone else? I’m not so sure.

(And yes, I’m sure I’ve made many grammatical mistakes in this post…)

I think what we can all take from this is, always read the post of what you are replying to. It does mean it takes a little more time to see what the post is actually about of course but theres no rush, thankfully the forums dont time us out while we're reading :)

Anyway, back to the replies before the thread gets lost amongst word structure and grammar !

I certainly think the fight for top 4 is going to be remarkable next season, realistically there could well be 7 or 8 teams who are all in with a good shout of top 4. I'd say its been a long time since we've had that many fighting for top 4. The battle for 4th should be quite the contest.

I think Villa could be a dark horse for top 4 too, unless they totally concentrate on the ECL.

I expect we will win the League again next year but I was expecting Bellingham to be in the side. Worried about the Midfield with Gungodan possibly leaving so I'm not expecting it to be easy with a real challenge coming from United next season. City vs Madrid CL final. Newcastle to win a cup.

If United manage to get bought out by the Qatari's we will be challenging next season with a proper title charge in the 24/25 season. I would hope for a top 3 finish and a decent run in the champions league.

If the Glazers stay then we will hobble along and maybe scrape top 4.

Cannot see anything other than City domination next season.

My dark horse will be Nottingham Forest. The owner doesn't just want to make up the numbers and if they can sort out their away form I think they will do well. Maybe even challenge for a top half finish. Massive club as well and my guilty pleasure really.

I thought you were an Everton fan?

I think next season will be more competitive imo.

United, City, Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool all continuing on a good trajectory. Chelsea will improve. Villa will be knocking on the door again.

Top 4 will be down to transfer business in the summer.

Spurs will be spurs and have a new manager by Christmas.
