I'm looking at a couple of laptops. No the are the same brand.

One is last ears model with a 1070 and the other is this year's model with a 2070.

There is a £700 price difference between them. (Granted this year's model has the better storage option as well).

Will there really be enough of a performance upgrade at 1080p to justify the increased price when I don't care about day tracing?

No. Get the 1070 and overclock it a little and it'll easily be on par or outperform the 2070.

Not sure this is true... isn’t the 2070 like in between a 1080 and 1080ti performance wise and with DLSS better than a 1080ti?

No where near. See the following:

Firestrike benchmark results for the GTX 1070 (Mobile)

Highest result, overall score 21,524 & graphics score 28,826.

Firestrike benchmark results for the RTX 2070 (Mobile)

Highest result, overall score 18,404 & graphics score 21,822.

Both of the above are paired with the same CPU (Intel Core i7-8750H Processor).

The 1070 score listed is not representative of all notebook 1070's but you have to go a fair way down the list in the first link to find a 1070 low enough to match the 2070.

The benchmarked card may be a 1070 but it's gauranteed at 28000 that the underlying card is been utilised.

So my present RTX 2080 is not as powerful as a throttled (eGPU based) GTX 1080Ti? https://www.3dmark.com/fs/18473199 that means the 2070 is nowhere near that position being less powerful card.

Your physics score is higher than mine how's that when I have the 7820HK?

Yeah, it outperformed my 7820HK in my X5V7 also. It was a solid chip and would sit at 4.5Ghz.

I don't get these scores I'm trying to not get too hung up bout it now, seems on par with what the laptop can achieve however miffed on the 7820HK Vs 6820, maybe some sort of patch is effecting it more? More bothered about the temperature at the moment.
