This is logical rubbish.
A fast car at 30mph is the same speed as slow car at 30mph. Brakes today are far superior to brakes from decades ago.
Plus it makes residential areas quieter because there's less tyre noise.
That was my point but you made it better than I didMost people won't be driving 20 just like most people don't currently drive 30. The actual effect of this will probably just be to make people reduce there speed to the old limit, which is probably a good thing.
Well there is your answer then, buy a bike, leave the car at home, stop paying your monthly gym fees, save a fortune and the planet - all round winWhat's the point of driving at 20 mph ? You can cycle faster then that for ages. ...
I don't have a car yet, still taking lessons.
Got a bike, and don't go to the gym.
That's not the point though, although in some cases 30 is a tad too much, if they are planning to do 20mph on some main streets, it's a different matter. Usually these bits of road are easy to drive much faster than 30 on... It's kind of silly, someone with a racing bike can go as fast as he want yet cars have to drive slow.
.. what has changed over the last 10 years to make 30MPH unsafe?
Not strictly true, you can still get done for speeding on a bicycle.
It's bloody stupid! If kids were taught not to mess about in, or run onto, the roads then none of this would be necessary!
I mean, I learnt in nursery school about the dangers of roads, David Prowse as the Green Cross Code Man anyone?
