20MPH limits

What's the point of driving at 20 mph ? You can cycle faster then that for ages. 30 mph is already annoying to keep to at some places.

Most people won't be driving 20 just like most people don't currently drive 30. The actual effect of this will probably just be to make people reduce there speed to the old limit, which is probably a good thing.
That was my point but you made it better than I did :D

I don't have a car yet, still taking lessons :p.
Got a bike, and don't go to the gym.

That's not the point though, although in some cases 30 is a tad too much, if they are planning to do 20mph on some main streets, it's a different matter. Usually these bits of road are easy to drive much faster than 30 on... It's kind of silly, someone with a racing bike can go as fast as he want yet cars have to drive slow.

Not strictly true, you can still get done for speeding on a bicycle.

^ Indeed you can, but it's hard to know if you're speeding if you've got no speedo! :p

I wonder if we'll ever see 10mph limits? Perhaps we should have some dude out in front waving a flag the whole time! :D

.. what has changed over the last 10 years to make 30MPH unsafe?

Simple, we no longer have Charlie the cat teaching our kids road safety.

"Meow ma maaw meow"
"Charlie says..."

:p

I agree though, 20 limits are annoying and in a lot of cases seemingly pointless.

Lol :D, not here faik, never heard of any cyclist being fined for speed, I don't think it's allowed here to fine cyclists for speed, I mean there's no such offense, but they could do you for reckless riding I guess or something similar here. Odd though if it's true for the UK, really makes me lol though tbh :D. Sir, we clocked you at 32 mph in a 20mph zone on your bike :D, that'll be a fine :D.

Ah k, sounds more reasonable, one of the advantages of a fast racing bike imo is not having to worry about speed :D, just pedal as hard as you can and fly forward until you get tired and slow down, anywhere even in 30kph(/20mph) zones :D.

It's bloody stupid! If kids were taught not to mess about in, or run onto, the roads then none of this would be necessary!

I mean, I learnt in nursery school about the dangers of roads, David Prowse as the Green Cross Code Man anyone?

That's really showing your age, Darth Vader advising you on the Green Cross Code. :p Didn't they have to dub him to hide his West Country accent?

Most kids know that they aren't supposed to run into roads but sometimes impetuousness overrides whatever logical thoughts they may have had about not doing so.

Retards in local and national government being unable to understand simple statistics that say this will do nothing?

It's another sign that our government (local and national) is more concerned with punishing private motorists with random rules than road safety.
