i know nothing about cars. needed an mot today - which failed. work need was pads and discs on the front, two windscreen wipers, rear driver side indicator wasnt working (something to do with the coonection) and two small rust spots.

cost £210 all in inc the mot. was i ripped off?

I would consider that cheap, but all of those are consumables really which you should keep on top of.

MOT - £40
Discs and pads for an average car, maybe £50 in parts and 2 hours labour? So £120 there
Wipers - £20 (for good ones)
Indicator relay (possibly) - £10
Another hours labour for the wipers, relay and bit of welding? £35

That comes to £225 and £35 p/h is pretty reasonably for a decent garage so I'd say its a good deal

2 hours?! Maybe if you got a 5 year old with a Fisherprice tool set, but for a trained mechanic with ramps it should be absolutely no more than an hour.

Lol yeh you're probably right - I'm basing it on when I've done it before with a good coffee break in the middle :)
