He cut road tax to zero for the smallest cars but put it up to £210 for the most polluting cars.

The thing is, that people who buy the 3+ litre cars that cause a problem, ie chelsea tractors, will just pay that without issue...

It doesnt solve the problem of all those huge polluting cars being on the road, just makes more cash for the govt...

I am alo asuming that my 15mpg 1200 car would be exempt from this higher road tax...

;)

That seems like quite a good idea. (I pay almost half normal tax anyway as my car is in the lowest emissions band anyway)

It would help if they actually explained what the large engines included. Mind you 210 isn't much more than the 160 it is now anyway.

The top 1% of most polluting cars.
So, itll probably be 5litre cars - Jags, M5 etc and lets face it, they can afford it.

Brilliant idea.

its 170 at the moment mate, not 160 ;)

Looks like it will be based on CO2 emissions. Just been listening to Jeremy Vine, who has been covering it.

Now I have to find out how I will be affected with my Jeep running on LPG, as that should' affect it.

It's done on emissions, not engine size, fuel economy or '4x4'ness.

£40 increase a year isn't going to stop anyone buying any sort of car.
