Hey guys,

My birthday today (woo! go me!) and am going to get a new monitor. I think 24 is too much as I am sat about a foot away from my monitor, so I 22" is a good comprimise. I play games a lot (Call of Duty 4, Frontlines, CS:S), and code probably as much. My budget is around £250 - £300.

If your wondering why I'm not picking one myself is because I know jack-all about monitors so I just want someone will a decent knowledge of them to pick me one right for me.

Thanks in advance,
- Saul.

IIYAMA ProLite E2201W-B1 is the best gaming 22" screen but be careful dont buy a B2 version as its not the same as B1 u still can get B1 if you google it for 190 £ ;)

I vote either the IIYAMA ProLite E2201W-B1 as Psychas said, or a 226BW, as I just brought one, and I'm very happy with it :)

And I'm really picky when it comes to backlight bleed / response times / ghosting etc.

But you may be able to get a better monitor for the extra money you are willing to spend..So see what people say.

Got the 226BW just over a year ago, and it's fantastic. Play CoD4 at max. res. (1680x1050) and also did a lot of coding (just finished a Computer Science degree), and can recommend it for both those uses.

Another 226BW owner here very pleased with the product - I do a lot of gaming and coding on it, very handy. You can also toggle presets with a single press, so you can lower the screen to something easier on the eyes for large areas of white if you want to.

Very happy with my 223BW, very similar to the 226BW, I doubt you would really be able to see the difference so I don't really think the 226BW is worth the extra money over the 223BW.

another happy 226bw owner but i've had mine since they launched dont know if they're still using the same panels for manufacturing tho

I'm a 226BW owner and i was not impressed at all! I'm now having to invest in a calibration tool (+- £50) to get the color right because Samsung presumably put one of their cheep as panels in what was supposed to be a half decent monitor. DO NOT BUY A 226BW if your not willing to run the risk of a sub-standard product.

The IIYAMA ProLite E2201W-B1 is what i should have brought. I would suggest you buy that.

beh* you keep slandering the 226bw, when you couldnt even get installed the software that comes with the 226bw which sorts the colours out. my colours were odd at first, installed the program (forgot the name) and now they are awesome. the so called "panel Lottery" ended ages ago on these monitors.

i highly reccomend this monitor, you could also go for the 24" ocuk value monitor for about £35 more which is an awesome monitor

I have every bloody right to slander the 226BW. The panel lottery has not ended and the MagicTune software refused to install.

Get your facts right before you start posting BS  Just because you got lucky, it doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of other people out there who are suffering from the same symptoms as me.

The OP has brought the B1 which is what i should have brought so who gives a crap anyways...

no it didnt end......its just there are other monitors out there now that compete with a S panel for around the same money.

going back 2 years the samsung S panel was easily the best buy for the price.
