22" monitor for Gaming and Coding

Hey guys,

My birthday today (woo! go me!) and am going to get a new monitor. I think 24 is too much as I am sat about a foot away from my monitor, so I 22" is a good comprimise. I play games a lot (Call of Duty 4, Frontlines, CS:S), and code probably as much. My budget is around £250 - £300.

If your wondering why I'm not picking one myself is because I know jack-all about monitors so I just want someone will a decent knowledge of them to pick me one right for me.

Thanks in advance,
- Saul.

id still say get a 24". the dot pitch is smaller, meaning text appears smaller and sharper. you also have about 32% more desktop area to play with. i wouldnt go back to a 22" no matter what distance i sat from it:)

but i see its too late, oh well;)

I'm a 226BW owner and i was not impressed at all! I'm now having to invest in a calibration tool (+- £50) to get the color right because Samsung presumably put one of their cheep as panels in what was supposed to be a half decent monitor. DO NOT BUY A 226BW if your not willing to run the risk of a sub-standard product.

The IIYAMA ProLite E2201W-B1 is what i should have brought. I would suggest you buy that.

beh*, didnt you RMA the Samsung?

Yep - i can't really comment about the result for fear of admin retribution :p

Long story short, i still have it and am currently in the process of choosing a suitable calibration tool. I would sell it, but that wouldn't be fair to the potential buyer.

Thats a shame, didnt you request a refund under the 7 day DSR?

If you are stuck with it, stick it on the bay you should get most if not all your money back!

I did request a refund, and it was within 7 days but instead of DSR, i RMA'ed it.

It's kind of stupid if you think about it, if i had DSRed the monitor instead of RMA, i would have probably received a refund. :(

It's a shame really, i really did think OCUK was top notch, however this whole experience has put a sour taste in my mouth. I will definitely be thinking twice before i buy Samsung again.

I did request a refund, and it was within 7 days but they sent it back and charged me £15 for their 'trouble' :(

Then you need to contact the shop and explain that you wanted to return it under the DSR and you did so within the 7 days, they should sort it out and refund you the £15! failing that speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau :)

...The Magic tune software doesn't install on mine...But the colours are fine.

Ever heard of changing colours on monitors by yourself? You have to do it on most TV related things nowadays anyways, so it's no different.

Unless the monitor literally does.not.work...Then theres nout wrong with the thing.

Well, your eyes must be amazing because when ever i try to calibrate using an image (shades of grey etc), it always ends up worse.

magictune installed and operated fine on my xp installation but slowed down the shutdown/restarting of the machine by about 30 secs....even after a fresh install of xp it does the same thing so i uninstalled it.

it works fine in vista though.

they have a 64bit version but it dosn't work for me.

Hey beh*,

Just got my new Samsung T220 today and I also have Vista 64, so tried the latest Magic Tune & it doesnt work for me either, but looking at Samsungs troubleshooting info our 8800 series GFX cards are not supported so I guess its down to that and not the software so to speak.

However early testing, I am happy so far with the screen, the colours are bold, the brightness & contrast are great too but will test soon on games, internet, movies etc to see if I am 100% happy with it but so far so good, the only thing I have done is to lower the brightness and contrast from stock settings as they were at 100% each

HP w2207h

Great monitor, great picture. Has been fantastic for my games, but more importantly, its the best looking monitor in this field i think, and its stand is much better than you find on other models

WHAT! I really hope you get one of the good panels because if your like me, you will be disappointed, esp if you play games. I have read a number of reviews that rate the B1 better in terms of response time than the S panel version of the 226BW

If there is anyone else out there that wants to swap their B1 for a 226BW then count me in.
